Hello, my name is Kevin Kraska and I'm glad you are here! I have been practicing in Columbus, OH for 25 years as a mental health and mindfulness clinician, and I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from the Ohio State University in 1994. While I have worked with many different populations and age groups, I am a firm believer in sticking with what one is good at doing. For me, that is defined as working with adults 18 and up in a 1-on-1, direct relationship (I do not provide family therapy or couples therapy). Here are some of my specialty areas: applied mindfulness, working with addictions and compulsions, helping work through transitions in one's life, older adult issues, grief in adults and anxiety and depression management and recovery.
My approach is an eclectic combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), existential (logo) therapy, client-centered, rational-emotive therapy (RET) and mindfulness-based approaches. Based on your unique situation and needs, each session is tailored to engage you in skillful and relevant ways, ultimately to help you move further toward your goals and desired outcomes.
I have been told by many clients over the years that I exhibit two primary qualities as a therapist that they've found most helpful - qualities which really stood out to them:
1) Clients have reported feeling 'seen' and valued just as they are 'as a person' in counseling, something which many have rarely or never experienced before.
2) Clients state that they appreciate my apparent ability to be 'gently confrontational' when it is needed.
