Kimberly Walker

About Me

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 28 years of experience in the field of mental health. I have worked with clients with a wide range of struggles/concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, problems regulating emotions, transgender issues, sexual orientation issues, addictions (including eating disorders), relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I also help many people who have experienced trauma of all kinds. My definition of trauma is: "It's not so much what has happened to us but it's what we've walked away believing about ourselves." Please know that I very much believe that what happens to us, or what doesn't happen to us is very important, needs to be shared and addressed. However, understanding the impact of those experiences is also very useful and will also need to be addressed in treatment.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating people with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral treatment driven interventions including Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In addition to solution focused traditional talk therapy, I am also trained in Motivational Interviewing, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) also known as Tapping, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). It's important that we work together to meet your unique and specific needs so you can get the most out of your experience here on BetterHelp.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards making a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. Let's get to work!

I look forward to working with you!

Kim is professional - she did not judge any part of my stories. I feel respected. At the same time, she gave me good guidance to focus on my own needs and feelings to deal with what happened in my life. A neutral observer to the mess in my life, and give fair suggestions when needed. This is exactly what I needed. Much appreciated.

Kim is the best counsellor I've ever had! I've been in and out of therapy since I was a child, for around 20 years, and my issues persisted. I was going through life thinking this is just the way I am and I would never be "normal" or "cured". After just a month of working with Kim I feel like a completely different person. I suffered from constant, nauseating, debilitating anxiety and panic attacks, and somehow now my anxiety is just gone. I still don't fully understand how, but Kim is magic! She changed my life and I am so grateful and lucky to have worked with her. She is extremely knowledgeable and, kind, non-judgemental, and incredibly perceptive. She picks up on things impressively quickly. She is so passionate about what she does and will always find a way to fit you into her busy schedule and accommodate your needs. Thanks Kim!

There can be no better help than what Kim does for people she works with. She made me believe I could cope with the most difficult life situation I've ever been in- trying to build a life in a new country completely alone. She doesn't try to protect you from yourself but she prepares you to see yourself differently. Step by step, with full commitment. Our arrangement was for a short two-month period with intensive sessions three times a week and she made changes in her own schedule to solve the issue of time zone difference between our countries.
I never missed our video calls, and on some days it was the only worthy hour. I knew that even if the day wasn't going as I'd wanted, I at least made a little step towards being myself again. I still have things to work on, 2 months is obviously not enough to undo all the damage from previous experiences, but the goal is reached - I couldn't get out of my desk to go get help so I opted for online counseling, now I'm running around a new campus getting organized and feeling grounded and in more connection with my reality than the whole past year. I feel like I have the energy and a vision of how I could get there. I stopped crying everyday and feeling helpless, I grew stronger. It couldn't have happened without Kim. I am and will stay very grateful to her and this service that made this possible.

Kim is a fantastic counsellor! She helped me identify and understand some of the challenges I'm facing in my personal life. She was very quick to respond and checked in on me multiple times. She also gave me tools and strategies to work on. Kim is a very respectful, kind and intuitive counsellor and I would definitely recommend her to others.
