About me

Hello! I am so glad you are here! You are courageous for taking the first step on improving your life!

My name is Kim Kostelnik. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker for the state of Ohio. For 15 years, I have dedicated myself in the profession of helping others. I was born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania where I graduated with my Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Misericordia University and my Masters Degree in Social Work from Marywood University. I relocated with my family to Columbus, Ohio 5 years ago.

My experience and practice has been in home, school and community based settings with children, youth, adults, couples and families. Specifically with children and youth I have experience in Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, parent-child conflict, trauma/abuse/neglect, anger management, and behavior management. Most of my adult practice includes: stress, anxiety, depression, relationship/family issues, martial counseling, divorce/separation, parenting struggles, intimacy/sex therapy, alcohol use/substance addiction, trauma/abuse/assault, pregnancy/postpartum.

My approach to therapy is reflective of a Strengths Based model and is client centered. You know your story best! I develop solution focused goals with my clients and prioritize what they feel is most important in developing a treatment plan. Some therapies I use include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, positive psychology, person-centered therapy and art/play therapy with children. My goal is to offer interventions to allow you to be the best version of yourself. You are the author of your story!

For my self care practice, I participate in yoga and spin classes and attend church on a regular basis. Most of my time is spent with my husband and three children. Volunteering is an important part of who I am. My role as a Volunteer Resource Coordinator for a local community organization, serves those who find themselves homeless in the Columbus Area. I gather and collect items and food to be distributed at the respite center. Lastly, I take great pride in being an Autism Advocate because of my work as a professional, as well as knowing individuals in my personal life on the Autism Spectrum.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about what I can offer you. I would be honored to guide you along your journey if you feel I am a good fit. Be Well!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kimberly Kostelnik. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I had never received therapy services before starting with Betterhelp. I didn't know what to expect or if it would truly help me. Betterhelp matched me with Kim and I am so thankful it did. She has seen me at my lowest points in life and helped me get to a place where I am truly happy. She went above and beyond every week to make sure I was okay and some weeks this meant messaging me multiple times. Kim was always empathetic and understanding. I do not have the words to express how thankful I am for all that Kim has done for me!!

She is very supportive and understanding. She actually listened and had conversations with me giving seemingly genuin feedback. Took time to customize her sessions to fit my needs. She is very kind and caring and genuinly wants to help her clients meet their goals.

When I started therapy with Kim I was a heartbroken girl that lacked self-confidence and self-worth. I didn’t know who I was and was unsure what I even wanted out of life. Throughout my journey with Kim, she has helped me transform into a strong woman and helped me gain that self-confidence that I was needing. Kim is an incredible listener and always gives her unbiased opinion. I can tell that she cares about me and wants to see me succeed. I owe a lot to Kim for how she has helped me overcome obstacles and opened my eyes to possibilities I would’ve never imagined. I feel so lucky to have been paired with Kim.

Kimberly has been such an amazing asset for me. As a therapist myself, I am always finding myself consumed with helping others. Kimberly has reminded me that it’s okay to take time for myself. She always verbalizes exactly what I’m thinking and validates my concerns. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

I’m not even sure where to begin with Kim being my counselor. After my very first session with her I immediately felt a weight come off of me and a sense of relief. She is so easy and comfortable to talk to. I can tell she genuinely cares about my feelings, my troubles, and helping me work through them. She has helped me make great progress in a short amount of time and I look forward to every session with her.
