Proverb: Pū‘ali kalo i ka we ‘ole.
Translation: Taro, for lack of water, grows misshapen.
Meaning: For lack of care one may become ill.
Aloha, and welcome to my page! I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years of counseling experience. I completed my degree at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. My pre-doctoral internship was at Asian Americans for Community Involvement in the Bay Area, and I subsequently completed my post-doctoral fellowship at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am licensed at the doctoral level in Hawaii and Texas.
The Hawaiian proverb above reflects my personal philosophy regarding human health and well-being. I have treated an array of clients from different ethnic backgrounds, religions, and all walks of life. My areas of interest include men and women's health, fertility stress management, grief counseling, postpartum depression, treating people in the "helping professions" who may be experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout, guiding clients through quarter and mid-life crises, pre-marital counseling, and counseling LGBTQIA populations.
My long-term therapy approach is integrative, leaning more towards existential/humanistic psychotherapy. I have also been formally trained in short term evidence based practices often used in primary care settings including Behavioral Activation, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Problem Solving Therapy-Primary Care. I am a National Register Health Service Provider and speak English, Urdu, and Hindi fluently.
Mahalo for stopping by, and I look forward to guiding you through your healing journey!

Dr. Syed has made an incredible impact on my life. Working with her was the single best decision I made in 2020.
I really appreciate Dr.Syed. Her approach, views and method of counseling is what I need. Someone that will keep thing completely honest and real with you. I feel as though I've improved with her. Finding someone who I felt as if they'd be a good fit for me has been a struggle. She just gets you and that's hard to come by. She's really great!
She’s very responsive and helpful. It’s like talking to a trusted friend.
Dr. Syed is a wonderful listener. She is very kind and compassionate and easy to talk to. I feel comfortable telling her things because I know she will not judge me. She knows a lot about being an empath and I feel that we connect well. She also makes great suggestions. I am very satisfied with her care and wish I had tried better help sooner!
Very grateful to have met such a personable and honest therapist. Those are hard to find! She is blunt and real and I need that!
She’s great! Always a listening ear and super easy to talk to.
Amazingly kind and true.
Kiran is helpful!
Dr. Syed is very honest and I that is what I like most about our sessions. I’m not comfortable talking with therapist or anything of that nature, but she somehow makes a way for you to be comfortable and find ways to express how you feel. I would definitely recommend her. She is absolutely amazing!!
Dr. K's ability to understand diverse backgrounds and how they affect us throughout life in different ways is amazing. Having someone who can understand different cultural customs and their ways of life whether good or bad really helps when trying to figure things out! She's understanding, compassionate and awesome!
Dr. Syed is very attentive and real. She answers back quickly and gives great feedback and tips. She helped my overall being and when my anxiety was through the roof she offered great tips. She’s got good energy and is very relatable. She helped break down and problem solve when my emotions were taking over the best of me. I definitely would see Dr. Syed and recommend her to other clients.
Dr. Syed has been extremely helpful in helping me through some major life transitions. She has taught me some really useful stress management techniques and is always there to help me through tough times.
