Kristen Scaife, LCSW
About me
I'm a licensed clinical social worker with over 13 years experience proving counseling. I hold a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Stony Brook University and a Master's degree in Social Work from New York University. Additionally, I have clinical training in Mind-Body Medicine from the Henry-Benson Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. I am licensed to practice therapy in CA and VA. I feel privileged to have worked with children, adolescence and adults of diverse backgrounds in a variety of treatment settings including hospital, school, and outpatient clinics throughout the US and in the South Pacific. Much of my experience has been with individuals struggling with mood disorders ( including depression, bipolar disorder & postpartum depression), anxiety & OCD, chronic illness/pain, caregiver fatigue and divorce. I have a special interest in women's health during pregnancy and postpartum, and adjustment to parenthood.
My practice draws on a variety of evidenced-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Restructuring, Mindfulness Training, Motivational Interviewing, and Relaxation therapy. Treatment is tailored to meet the unique cultural, spiritual and situational needs of each client. I see therapy as a collaborative process. Together we will explore the thoughts and emotions behind patters of behavior to discover what blocks personal fulfillment. In the context of a warm, supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, my clients learn new skills to cope with a stress and achieve personal growth.
