About me

Do you have concerns about relationships in your life? Are you struggling with life changes and stress such as becoming a new mother or father, being in a new relationship, parenting struggles, work stress, divorce, grief and loss, and so forth. It is not always clear what causes a person to suddenly seem withdrawn, worried, stressed, angry, or tearful. If you feel you need support while coping with a difficult life event, trust your instincts.

My role with individuals and families is a collaborative one - I work with clients using their own strengths and creativity. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual and their unique situation to move towards change and growth. In my practice, I provide individuals with a safe, supportive environment in which they can learn more effective ways of managing confusing or upsetting emotions. I use creative methods to involve individuals in their own treatment and change. Examples of such methods include art, stories, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). Since 2000 I have worked with individuals, couples and families at non-profit agencies, schools, hospitals, in their homes. In 2006 I completed my graduate work at the University of Connecticut. I have been in private practice since 2008. I also work as an adjunct faculty member at Keuka College teaching courses on family development and relationship dynamics and supervise graduate students in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at University of Rochester.

Additional Training:
I have participated in a medical family therapy intensive training to inform my practice. This influences my work by using the "biopsychosocial" model. I completed a certificate in Maternal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International to work with pregnant women and new families. I have a certificate in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a model created by Jon Kabat-Zinn. MBSR has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and medical conditions. I use this with many families and believe it is a great addition to most therapeutic work. I have also acquired additional training in Parent Management Training (PMT) developed by the Yale University and incorporate this behavioral model with my families when appropriate and helpful.

When I am not working, I am spending time with my husband and two children hiking and playing with our dogs. My interests include hiking, yoga, baking, and traveling.
