Born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, I attended Northern Illinois University to pursue my dreams of working in a helping profession. After completing my Bachelor’s degree at NIU, I was excited to continue my education pursuing a degree they offered, a Masters of Science with a specialization in Marriage & Family Therapy. It directly spoke to my philosophies about people, relationships and their functioning. Upon graduating in 2003, I was asked to return to my place of internship as a lead clinician. I happily accepted, as I enjoyed the challenging clinical atmosphere of the residential facility. For the next five years, I provided services to the severely emotionally and behaviorally challenged clients and their families. This work involved addressing extensive trauma, PTSD, bi-polar, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and various personality disorders. In 2008, I decided it was time to pursue my licensure and embark on my dream of participating in private practice.
Since then, I have found great enjoyment in assisting members of the community with their struggles. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship; when you have a safe, secure and trustworthy environment it promotes comfort when exploring life’s struggles. If this is not a core component of the relationship, honestly exploring aspects of one’s self becomes difficult. I believes that I am compassionate supporter, educator, facilitator, encourager and advocator for my clients. I use my extensive experiences to individualize treatment for each client. The diversity of clients and experiences I have had has evolved my approach with clients in a way that allows for maximum growth and change – when the client is truly dedicated to the process.
I am incredibly grateful for training and experiences I have received. I am able to offer clients one of the most effective and efficient therapies available to us today, Brainspotting. For the past three years, I have studied this modality intensely, under amazing leaders. I have been a part of, and witnessed, such incredible growth and healing. I am honored to offer this work and share this with clients.

Kristin has helped our family establish routines that we didn't know we needed, open up discussions we didn't know needed discussing and life for our family much easier. It has been great working with her.
Kristin has changed my life in ways I never knew possible! She has always made my counseling experience such an easy, comfortable one. Each session, she makes it feel like I’m coming to talk to a long time friend as opposed to someone who is just here to do their job. She is so passionate in her work and has consistently gone above and beyond in her practice to help me reach the personal goals we set together. I couldn’t be more grateful to have been paired with Kristin!
Kristin is a very professional, understanding, and caring counselor who has patience, will, knowledge and skills to listen and help you help yourself when you feel utterly defeated. She's helped me get through the major depressive episode and find the light at the of the tunnel when I was feeling crushed with pain, misery and suffering yet again.
I was a bit skeptical of the techniques at the beginning, but I have to say that they've been incredibly helpful. I've been talking to Kristin since the beginning of my pregnancy, with my personal goal being that I would not have to take any medication during the pregnancy, but rather use therapy, CBT, and relaxing techniques to handle the hormone surges and prenatal depression and anxiety.
I have to credit her weekly sessions as one of the main reasons I haven't had to go back on meds! She's incredibly warm, supportive, and empathetic, and really knows when to give you space to talk and when she needs to guide you a bit. She's been a lifesaver.
Very polite, warm and understanding. I especially liked that I was talking to not only a professional but also a fellow human being who actually wants to listen.
Kristin is such a good listener and she is willing to help with an open heart. Thank you, Kristen.
I want to thank Kristin Tenuta; she has helped my marriage with my disabled spouse and the mental/emotional and physical struggles I had with what came along with that. Easy to talk to and listens. She is GREAT!
She is very sweet, understanding and competent.
Kristin is a God send. She is very prompt with getting back to you and provides you ample time for therapy. I had a different therapist before and the difference is like day and night. Thanks Kristin!
In our brief time so far, Kristin has been extremely generous of her time and is a supportive and insightful professional. She goes beyond the call of duty - a rare find! I feel lucky to have been matched with her.
I think this is a great offer, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who's having a hard time. It's affordable, professional, and you can write to your counselor whenever you want. :)
Kristin was a great listener and really gave me tangible ways to work through my varying day to day stresses.
Kristin helped me through a rough patch recently and has been so supportive and helpful through everything. Very prompt with responses and that's something that I really appreciate as I didn't really have anyone else I could talk to. She helped to clarify my thoughts and feelings and is very understanding and compassionate. Should I need any future support I would definitely be in touch with Kristen again. Thank you so much!
