About Me

Welcome!

My name is Kristy and I'm a licensed professional counselor (LPC) through the state of Wyoming. I've worked with clients in all types of settings, from all different backgrounds, of all different ages. My passion is working with the entire nervous system, using what some people are calling "whole brain therapies", in which I use somatic awareness as an integral part of therapy.

What is somatic awareness and why does it matter? "Somatic" refers to our subjective perception of our own body, including sensations in the body, impulses, urges, and awareness of our body's position in space. By building somatic awareness, we can become aware of our autonomic nervous system, a branch of the nervous system that regulates much of our body's systems and is responsible for keeping us safe, and so can subconsciously drive much of our emotional states and behavior. When we pay attention to our body during therapy, we notice how it responds to certain thoughts, beliefs, and memories. This then helps us develop a greater capacity for distress, allows our nervous system to recognize that these emotions can be felt safely, and investigate our beliefs and memories so our nervous system can update itself rather than unconsciously respond to past experiences. This allows us to heal trauma - which also largely influences our beliefs, perceptions, chronic emotional states, and behaviors. We can also build emotional intelligence that results in a better relationship with ourselves and with others, as well as become more emotionally resilient. All of this happens within the safety of our relationship, helping your nervous system feel connected and grounded in the present moment as we support its naturally capacity for healing.

Mindfulness, the practice of noticing what is happening in the present moment, is a big part of this work, but as more than just a tool I often provide clients. Having practiced it extensively gives me the capacity to be fully present with you, and have also helped me cultivate compassion and authenticity, so you can trust I can be honest, but gentle and patient with you.

Tools and skills are also integral to this process. This is where I can give you a variety of specific mindfulness tools to help cope with and navigate your symptoms. Being able to identify when we’re triggered and practice healthy ways of coping with those triggers allows us to slowly build our internal resources and resiliency.

Insight into our inner workings, capacity to stay present with ourselves, and supportive tools all work together to allow us to make this journey. It doesn’t matter what we’re bringing to the table, whether it be profound grief or mild anxiety, we don’t have to soldier through on our own. In our hyper individualistic society where we may subconsciously believe we need to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps,” this is a radical notion, and even our nonjudgmental, authentic relationship alone can be deeply healing.

What both my clients and I have learned is that it is absolutely possible to change. I offer guidance and support from a place of integrity, from knowing the types of twists and turns of the journey, and integrating that with my professional experience having successfully helped diverse clients each with unique issues.

Kristy is supportive and warm and understanding and knowledgeable. She has a unique ability to help me focus on the issue at hand and peel back the layers of what's really going on. Kristy is amazing!! She is so kind and understanding. Kristy is very professional and nice. I find it really easy to talk to her, tell her my concerns and worries. I was skeptical of using BetterHelp at first, I didn’t think it would be beneficial at all, however since I’ve been chatting with Kristy, I’ve learned a lot about myself and my surround emotions. Kristy listens attentively and acknowledges my thoughts. She validates my opinions and feelings and this makes me feel important, and makes me feel confident. Kristy specializes in sinfulness something I wanted to explore more, I’m grateful and I couldn’t have been paired with anyone better. I enjoy chatting with her as I find her approach very comforting, almost like confiding in a friend it. After each of our sessions or her message responses I feel like a weight has been lifted off, I can breathe again and resume back to my daily activities happily. Kristy is such a wonderful listener and really got to the bottom of my issues pretty much straight away. Having her ‘holding my hand’ during a difficult time of my life has been very important to me. Kristy is teaching me about mindfulness which I had never known before. Working through the key issues one at a time has helped to strip away the dark clouds.
