About Me
Hi! Welcome!
My name is Krys. I identify as a CIS, bisexual female and use She/Her pronouns
If someone had told me years ago that today I would be sitting in front of my computer writing a profile to tell clients who were coming to me for mental health services about myself, I would have had a hard time believing it. The fact is, I never set out to be a social worker or a therapist. My plan was to be a preschool teacher. I loved working with the kids in my class. I loved to watch them grow and learn and to discover new things… also, and maybe this goes without saying, but naptime is kind of the best. My background is in early childhood education; however, I want to assure my clients that I do have experience working with adults and that I am excited to be here.
Through a series of extremely fortunate events that started in my preschool classroom, I landed a job at an agency that worked to keep kids out of foster care. We worked with high needs family who faced having their children removed by the court, homelessness, unemployment, and many other serious challenges. I did a little bit of everything from helping to clean homes, to attending court to advocating for a client with a school. After a few years, and some truly life changing experiences, I decided to complete a degree in Social Work. I completed my first degree at K-State and completed Grad school at KU. Not only has this led me to a career I absolutely love, but it also creates somewhat of an identify crisis when I watch KSU and KU play against each other.
Currently, I live in Topeka with my husband and our two cats. Speaking of which, if we get the chance to video chat, you may see one or both of my cats since they love to make appearances when I am working. Don’t worry though, they are very good at keeping information confidential. That is to say, I maintain very strict confidentially since I do work at home.
In my full-time job, I work at a CMHC with kids ages 3 – 18 and their families. Over the years, I have developed specialties in working on ADHD behaviors, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Communication and LGBTQIA+ issues – especially trans – identifying individuals who are transitioning. My Modalities include CBT, ACT, and Client-Centered approaches. I believe that the most important part of therapy is the professional therapeutic relationship that develops between a therapist and client. I always meet my client where they are and allow them to lead, even if I have to bring them back to task now and then.
I am extremely client-centered and for me that means we will work together to determine where you want to start working, and how quickly we go. My client is in charge.
I am very much looking forward to supporting you on your journey towards better mental health!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Krystal Kershaw. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Because this would have helped me when I was looking for a therapist, I wanted to put firstly that I'm autistic and was looking for someone who knew how to deal with the neurodiverstiy that comes with it - Krys is amazing.
I've had Krystal as a therapist for almost a year now (coming up to 10 months soon, on and off) and she has always been understanding of my circumstances that leaves me either slow to respond, bad at communicating or generally bad at being a social human. I've met nothing but acceptance from this person, so I would recommend her tenfolds to anyone who struggles with opening up to a therapist.
She is understanding and she listens. I love having her as my Thera
Krystal listened to my concerns and provided helpful advice, and made me feel understood.
Krystal is absolutely wonderful! Great at responding to messages has given me resources for my issues between sessions.
She's great. Really kind and patient and makes me feel good about myself.
Krysta Kershaw is the main reason I'm still alive. She is instrumental to my survival. I love how easy it is to talk to her. She shows complete understanding and gives me the tools to keep going.
Krystal is an amazing therapist and person. She equipt me with very helpful tools as well as resources in order to help me learn, grow and be okay in the now. She's very professional, friendly, extremely caring and I appreciate her so much.
Krystal Kershaw is one of the best therapist that has worked with concerning my transgender experience.
I really enjoy having Krystal as my therapist, I've had her for a therapist for around 3-4 years if I remember correctly and I don't plan on changing cause she's the only therapist I've met who is on the same wave length im on
Krystal was better than I ever expected. She not only listened to me but supported me in a way that was friendly and comforting. I am glad to have interacted with her. Her solutions are very helpful and easy. She never made me feel like I was being judged or looked down on. Instead she helped me to become a better me.
I've made huge progress in my mental state thanks to her. Somethings can't be fixed, but they can be properly managed in a much healthier way, and Krystal has helped me realize that better.
She’s awesome
I’m so lucky to have Krystal as my counsellor! She’s kind, understanding and has a knack for getting to the root of issues I’ve been facing in my relationships and career. I appreciate her frequent check ins especially at times when I was overwhelmed by the daily grind and I couldn’t be more thankful for her constant support.
Krystal is extremely helpful. She is very competent, empathetic and accessible. I immediately felt that I can trust her and confide in her. She creates a comfortable atmosphere in the Sessions.
Extremely helpful, listens to issues then gives excellent direction and ideas to help solve those issues. Thanks Krystal!
I really appreciate Krystal’s time and for listening to me. She helped me understand that what I was feeling was real and not just my imagination. It helped to talk through it with her and have her support.
Krystal is amazing! She’s a great listener, so funny, and is so helpful in making sense of what I’m feeling and giving strategies to feel better
She is great! I wouldn’t want anyone else.
Krystal has been amazing it is a real relief to have someone to talk to at any given moment and checking in on me with no agenda other than my safety and welfare. I would highly recommend Krystal to anyone.
Amazing! I have a hard time connecting with people, and rarely share my innermost thoughts. Krystal messaged me frequently prior to actually having a video session together, and that made a world of difference. I highly recommend!
I have really enjoyed the time spent working with Krystal so far! I feel that she truly listens to what I’m saying and understand my point of view. In the past, I have had a very difficult time find a counselor that I am comfortable talking to, so I’m very glad that I’ve found Krystal through Better Help. I really appreciate the check-ins between sessions. I look forward to continuing working with her!
Krystal has a very calm demeanor that allows me to pause and think through actions and thoughts without feeling judged. She also has given us tools to help us with communication, and while these tools are not second nature (or even close yet), they are practical and doable. I know with practice, they will help us to avoid misunderstandings and to show mutual respect.
Krys' kind and caring nature makes her very approachable and trustworthy . She takes the time to listen and gives insight that I never thought of before.
Krys is very flexible when scheduling sessions. She is also very thoughtful when she checks in during the week to see how I am doing.
I would be happy to recommend her to others who not only could use a listening ear, but someone who is patient, understanding, helps you see things with different perspectives and has an ability to make you feel special!
Krystal has been great! She has been very supportive, helped me through some difficult struggles. It's been nice to know she is there when I need her.
