Hello! My name is Lakeiya (Kia) Cherry. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Maryland and in the District of Columbia. I have been a social worker for 13 + years. However, I have worked in the mental health field for approximately 20 years. My experience working with diverse populations has allowed me the opportunity to support individuals, groups, and families with addressing various needs such as depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, issues with communication, family discord, relationship issues, and parent-child relations.
The interventions I provide are based on the individual that I am working with and the presenting dilemmas. My most utilized treatment approaches consist of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Integrative Counseling. Beyond providing evidenced-based interventions, I believe having a strong therapeutic rapport is essential to the success of the counseling process. My initial goal is to build a trusting relationship and increase your comfort level with sharing information that might not be so comfortable.
As John Donne stated, “ No man is an island.” I believe everyone needs support from others at some point in their lives. That does not mean they are weak or incompetent. It just means the situation might be harder to manage independently. That makes us all human. Sometimes all you need is someone to talk to that will listen and provide guidance in a nonjudgmental and confidential manner. We can accomplish so much more in life when we have the support and motivation to do so. If you are a person who is ready to change unhealthy thought patterns and live a more gratifying and peaceful life, I am the kind of therapist that will support you through your journey. I believe therapy is a partnership. You are the expert of your feelings and needs. I have expertise in the mental health field. Together, we can work towards achieving your desired goals in a manner that is best for you.
My availability primarily consists of afternoon and late evening hours during the week. I am also available on Saturdays between 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Additional availability will be offered upon request.

Love her. She is soooo encouraging and reminds me of who I am always.
Lakeiya is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is very easy to open up to, she focuses on positive solutions to issues, and re-framing situations to see things from another perspective, to get outside of your own head. I would recommend her to anyone.
Lakeiya is amazing. When you need her she is there and shows that she cares.
Lakeiya is really a positive person, and she is very helpful in that she provides a listening ear. I appreciate her advice and expertise.
I’ve been in therapy for about a year and have worked with three therapists thus far. Lakeiya is hands down the most understanding, relatable and empathetic therapist i’ve had the pleasure of working with. She has a genuine care for her clients and helps steer me in the healthiest direction on my therapeutic journey through solid attention to detail and setting of goals and objectives. I’m ecstatic to work with her.
Lakeiya is amazing. I feel so comfortable and supported speaking to her and she follows up amazingly.
