About Me

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."- Viktor Frankl

The difference between those who truly thrive in life and those who do not is how one reacts and then internalizes stress. True resiliency comes with practice and through the reconditioning of negative cognition's.

Welcome to BetterHelp!

My name is Laura Woods and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I currently live in Cleburne, Texas with my husband, two sons, dog and cat. I am very, very down to earth so please know I already accept you as you are. This includes all the not so pretty crap life throws at us. I received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from Kansas State University (Go Wildcats!) and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. I am trained in EMDR, TF-CBT and REBT as well as solution focused modalities. I have worked in the mental health field for 10 years including jails, psychiatric hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. For this reason, I can come alongside you and handle your pain without shock, fear or judgement. Plus, I am the first to admit that I have some of the same struggles but through counseling have learned to "struggle well" and you can too. I currently counsel individuals effected by trauma, domestic violence and sexual abuse through a local Children's Advocacy Center and I see people of all ages. I provide counseling services in a safe, nurturing environment where clients feel comfortable talking openly about their stress and challenges. I want you to feel comfortable being you, please do not hold anything back. Counseling is tough and this is the place where you talk about the hard stuff but there is healing in the telling. Just a side note, If you cuss, then cuss, it won't phase me one bit as I know it's a true expression of emotions. I welcome the work of improving other's ability to cope and hope to empower clients to live more freely and express themselves more effectively. I am a solution focused, direct, "straight shooter" but I realize healing is a delicate process. I look forward to see what healing brings to your life.

Laura is so kind-hearted, understanding, and easy to talk to. She is very responsive to messages and journal entires. I felt important to her and she did her best to help me better cope with and try to find solutions to my many complex issues. I could answer the phone session crying and hyperventilating and end the call laughing and smiling.

Laura was my second counselor on BetterHelp and I immediately felt heard and understood upon our first conversation. Wow what a difference a good listener can make! She is patient, empathetic and encouraged me in the changes I wanted to make by helping me mentally prepare for overcoming challenges. She is a great mix of personable and professional, for me. I was relieved when I found Laura!

Laura has been a dream come true. Honestly I know that sounds cheesy but I came to the app and was assigned someone that I just didn’t really connect with. Stepping back into therapy was already nerve-racking. I’m not sure what it was about her profile but it definitely spoke to me and I’m glad it did. From the start Laura was able to read me and my feeling and knew what to say right away. Our first talk was short but I was already feeling relief from there she was able to empower me with tools and helped me see things that have truly helped me. I appreciate the flexibility she has and had while working with me. Thank you Laura. ❤️
