My name is Lauren Guilbeault. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Education in 2010 from the University at Albany. I completed my Master’s program in Mental Health Counseling in 2012 from the University at Albany.
I started my career in mental health working with clients with a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance abuse in an inpatient facility called Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare. After about a year, I moved to the outpatient unit of the agency. I ran groups focused on anger management, self-esteem/confidence, as well as groups focused on co-occurring diagnoses of mental health and substance abuse. I have extensive experience working with individuals with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse issues. I have also worked with many individuals with bipolar disorder. I remained at SBH for several years until I took a position working with children and families in the foster care setting at Elmcrest Children’s Center. I currently have my own private practice where I meet with clients who have had impaired driver offenses. I complete their assessments, evaluations and provide short-term substance abuse counseling as well. I have 6+ years of experience in the field of mental health.
In regard to my counseling approach, I pull techniques from motivational interviewing as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. I think that my counseling approach works well with online counseling because I always remain client centered. This allows clients the opportunity to express themselves in a safe, nonjudgmental environment while exploring what issues they would like to work on.

Thus far, Lauren has been wonderful. Her responses are both thoughtful and helpful. She provides a number of solutions to the issues I bring to her. Although we're very early on (2 weeks in) in our counseling, I'm confident she will be able to continue to help me reflect and make necessary changes that will improve my life.
Lauren has created a space in which I feel that I can express myself fully. The support she provides is fair, judgement-free and thoughtful. I completely trust that she wants to help me and guide me through my personal journey. I am thankful for her kind words and positive thinking.
