My name is Lauren Ungar. I did social work for many years before returning to school to do a doctorate in clinical psychology. I have worked as a psychotherapist for more than 20 years, including in general outpatient psychotherapy, and nursing home settings. I focus on helping people to overcome depression and anxiety and also do a lot of work helping people to improve all kinds of relationships. Including setting boundaries. I had a bad first experience with BetterHelp. My first counselor was inattentive, uninquisitive, and even fell asleep during one session. I decided to try again with a new counselor and found Dr. Ungar. She exceeded all of my expectations and I finally got the counseling support that I had sought out in the first place. While it seems BetterHelp might be hit or miss for counselors, I would recommend Dr. Ungar to anyone regardless of the platform. She is reaffirming and supportive, and she has helped me keep an eye on my own psychosocial "blind spots". I am thankful for this experience, and thankful for BetterHelp for the service to allow counselors like Dr. Ungar to be accessible to the public.

So far my therapy has been a good experience
I have been reluctant to try therapy, even though I know I needed it. I joined BetterHelp and matched with Dr. Ungar. I saw her education and felt confident she could help me. Within 10 minutes of our first session she correctly identified my issues and we came up with a plan to address my issues over the course of my therapy. I highly recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Ungar really listened to me and I felt seen. She met me right where I was at, and taught me a variety of tools to cope with my anxiety. I feel like I can tackle my anxious thoughts head on, and I am not at the mercy of them any longer. Thank you Dr. Ungar :)
My original thoughts for using better help were to just try and experiment with it to see my options. I didn’t expect it to help me as much as it did. Dr. Ungar really listened to everything I had to say and gave me good advice and things to practically work on and take away with me. All of my expectations were exceeded. Because of Dr. Ungar I feel like I’m in a much better space than when I first started.

Dr. Ungar allowed me to find my self again by sending relevant worksheets for me to read over, giving advice on what to do, and being honest with what I would say.
