About me

Hello. My Name is Larry Ouellette . I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an additional certification to provide supervision to counselors in training. I am licensed in the state of Texas. I have an M.Ed. in counseling granted by Cambridge College. I have more than 20 years’ experience in private practice, in addition to working in acute care psychiatric hospitals providing care to all ages from pediatric to geriatric. I have also served as the clinical director of a community based outpatient mental health center. My first love has always, and remains, working with individuals, couples and families.

Several months ago I decided to work exclusively online (I have utilized telemed platforms for online and phone based counseling for several years). I have found video, phone and live chat counseling to be effective and efficient tools for the delivery of therapeutic care. And there's no traffic to deal with!

I have significant history with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, family conflict; coping with grief and loss; career and workplace issues. I also have extensive experience and training in the area of trauma and its short and long term consequences.

I am primarily a Cognitive Behavioral counselor, which means we would be working with beliefs and thoughts, and how they drive behaviors. I also have training and extensive experience in several other treatment modalities, including psychodynamic counseling, family systems, grief counseling and EMDR, among others. My approach to counseling is pragmatic, and I will often draw from many disciplines as required as we work toward solutions.

I am a client-centered counselor. I won’t ask you to do anything that violates your first principles, but we may in the course of our work examine and test the validity of those principles to see if they still apply. I am open minded, compassionate, and many of my clients have told me I’m easy to talk to.

We’ll likely start with identifying goals, because if we want to go someplace we need to know where that place is. Then we may develop a plan to help us organize our work. Or, if it seems right, we may just dive into the problems and see where we go. Counseling is an intensely personal experience. It’s a journey. I will listen, guide, encourage, support, empower and cajole. But I won't tell you what to do. Because it’s your journey.

Fantastic! Really helped me strengthen my self confidence and deal with my family issues. I moved to California and that is why I stopped seeing him but if I were in Texas I’d still be seeing him!

Mr. Ouelletted is a very insightful, to the point, precise therapist who listens, remembers, and everything he says is relevant, appropriate, and to the point in terms of tone, clarity, and content. By "tone" I mean therapists must be careful to tell a patient what they can hear. And mr. Ouellette does just that.

Hands down one of the nicest guys on the face of the Earth. Great listener, good balance of comedy and seriousness when it comes to him. Very knowledgeable in reading the room and knowing which to go with. Definitely took me from a pretty bad spot to a clear mind. 10 out of 10 would recommend, I have nothing negative to say. Enjoyed every conversation we had hope the absolute best for him and his wife.
