About Me

I believe that anyone can achieve an optimum state of mental and emotional health regardless of environmental influences and/or previous traumatic experiences. I also believe that someone’s negative experiences and difficulties need not define who that person is or determine their human potential. During my 10-years of counseling experience I've chosen to employ an eclectic approach to therapy tailored to meet each individual’s needs and goals with a strong reliance on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and evidence based approaches compatible with best practices and cultural diversity. I hold a Master of Science degree in Psychology, clinical track, focusing on therapy, psychological testing, statistics, and research. Major course work included: physiological, abnormal, and neurological psychology, trauma focused therapy, behavioral and cognitive behavioral psychology, psychopharmacology, psychometrics, statistics, and psychological assessments. As a Licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists; I abide by the N.B.C.C., A.C.A., and the Oregon licensing board code of ethics. I look forward to working with you and sharing your journey to self-discovery and healing.

Laurie is a great listener and direct. She helped me work through a period of grief after losing someone close to me, my stress as a person of color during our current period of racism, and my lack of motivation at work. She helped me understand my feelings in broader context, and provided me with the support that I needed during a difficult time in my life.

She is kind but honest. I have full confidence in her knowledge and experience. I feel that she genuinely cares and is present with me during our sessions and is very quick to respond if I message her about anything outside of our scheduled appointments. I feel that she has a game plan to help me with my concerns. She gives me easy tools/assignments to help myself which helps me feel empowered about my own ability to help myself. It’s already making a huge difference for me!

Laurie is extremely friendly and easy to talk to. She is very good at listening, and asks questions I hadn't considered. There was never any air in our conversations and I found my experience with her to be quite helpful. I highly recommend Laurie Dawkins.
