About me

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor, "LPC", in the State of Texas since 2010 and was originally licensed in the State of Michigan as an LPC-I (Intern) in 1999. Prior to becoming an LPC I worked as an RN in Maternal Child, ER, Psychiatry and Cardiology. After completing Graduate school, I opened my own practice as well as doing Inpatient, Outpatient and ER Psychological evaluations. My degree is in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary, Detroit, MI. I also hold degrees in Nursing and Psychology.

My counseling style is relaxed, supportive, practical and goal oriented. Methods are eclectic- including using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and exploring the impact of childhood, gender and life experiences that impact thoughts, interpretations and actions. I encourage my clients to keep moving forward, out of their pain, into a self-sufficient and self-affirming existence. My goal is to help you be the best, unique “you”, you can be, and to be able to function at your optimum level.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Laurie Unger. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Laurie is a God-send. I went through many counsellors before finding her and felt an instant connection. She provides such genuine and thoughtful support, is always present and patient with me, and even goes beyond to offer as much guidance as she can to help me when I can’t see things clearly. My experiences in the past, especially with this app, haven’t been the most successful. But I finally feel like I’ve found a permanent fit, and if your searching for a person that can meet ur needs while also providing remarkable insight, Laurie is perfect for u.

Her help was invaluable to overcome my issues. She was attentive, focused on my needs, and made it easy for me to talk to her. An excellent counselor in any regard and I highly recommend her.

Laurie is a hell of a therapist!!!

She introduced me to my potential and is helping me understand real self-care, not just face masks and bubble baths.

One of her greatest strengths is her ability to put language around complex issues. She listens carefully, reads between the lines, and asks thought-provoking questions. It's impressive, Laurie often hears what you're too afraid to say out loud and is able to smoothly guide discussions towards issues worth exploring. She knows how to model vulnerability and professionalism simultaneously.

Sessions are effective, refreshingly honest, and compassionate. She is punctual, bright, and full of insight. It's been a privilege to work with her. I highly recommend Laurie Unger!!

Laurie is heaven sent. Just when I felt like giving up on counselling, I was finally matched with someone who understands my needs. I love Laurie's 'boot camp' approach to therapy. Laurie's style is definitely for those who want to take counselling seriously and actually see results! I have been counselling with Laurie for many months now and I'm definitely seeing a difference in my mental state. She is professional, caring, funny and intelligent. Couldn't wish for a better counsellor.
