About Me

I'm so glad that this website has led you to this profile so I can say CONGRATS on taking the first step towards mental health counseling.

I am a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have been working in this field for 5 years. I have provided counseling in a variety of settings that include community health centers, juvenile detentions, county jail, and currently work as a full-time crisis clinician for a community service board. Through these settings I have had the opportunity to work with many conditions like ADHD, ODD, many personality disorders, PTSD but mostly Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety, Bipolar and addiction.

I believe that everyone has a story. I believe that everyone has the right to tell that story, their worries, desires, and goals in a supportive, unbiased environment. I strongly believe in client-driven therapy and would be honored to be a support that you have available on your journey. Due to this, I stand behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution -Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapies.

The best part about mental health concerns/addiction is that recovery exists. You are the driver to that recovery and you are at the beginning of that road. I can help you identify barriers and help you explore coping skills and other resources to be successful in mental health recovery or your goals.

*LGBT Knowledgeable and Affirmative

**I am also a CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) who believes that physical movement can improve our mood and overall emotional wellness. I have had great success with individuals in my practice who have added movement into their treatment plan. (This option is also available using this platform only if it is something you would be interested in. To be clear, I believe in body-positivity and measure success by gauging how we feel, not how we look or what we weigh.)

Layne os really a cut above the rest. She is honest and direct, places you in front of some "uncomfortable truths" (which is essential) and guides you through them. She is very flexible when it comes to scheduling and is generous with her time and expertise between sessions. Overall, I feel listened, respected and supported.

10/10 would recommend

I love better help and I love talking with Layne. I have an extensive history of many traumas and in the short time we’ve spoke I can already feel a connection and understanding between us. I know she will continue to help me grow my health skills. She calls me out on things when I need it and she is a great listener and teacher.

Layne is awesome. Great listener, no judgement, no nonsense, and feels like someone who's both able to call me on my stuff but also be in my corner when that's helpful too. Really glad I found her!

I’ve only worked with Layne for a little while, but she’s incredible well spoken and really dances through conversation in a really inspiring way. I feel lucky to work with her!

To have someone outside of your world that you can confide in is something that you can't really understand until you have that person. Someone who isn't weighed down with a shared history, It's amazing to just be able to open up and have someone challenge you to rethink the way you see yourself and other around you. My only issue is that I didn't start sooner.
