About me

Hi and welcome to my page, thanks for stopping by! My name is Leah and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have been licensed for 2 years but I have been in the helping field since 2006 when I worked at a residential treatment center for abused and neglected girls where I saw the challenges they faced on a daily basis and the strength they continued to muster daily. After working at the residential treatment center I continued on the crisis and trauma path working at another residential treatment center and a psychiatric hospital. I have also worked in outpatient and community care; I have worked with children as young as 3 all the way up to the geriatric population. During my experience in the helping field I have come to discover that my therapeutic niche includes: depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, trauma, abuse, and empowerment.

Two roads diverge in the woods; I took the one that led me to counseling. When I was younger I knew I wanted to help others; I have always been the listening ear, the shoulder to cry on, the rock to lean on. Every person has their own path to walk down, hurdles to navigate, and passion to live for; counseling is my passion and the second I took the first step onto my path as a counselor I knew my journey had begun and I was finally on the path that was meant for me. I enjoy thinking outside the box and finding creative ways to build rapport with clients while finding the best tools and interventions that will be beneficial to each individual client who comes to me with assistance navigating their path to wellness. Growing up, I dealt with my personal struggles and mental health concerns on my own and I don't wish that on anyone else. We all need to know that we have people in our corner, cheering us and raising us up when we don't have the strength to do it for ourselves.

I am a person-centered, holistic, eclectic therapist with an open-mind; I enjoy thinking outside the box. Simply put, I am the type of therapist who will give it to you straight but with a lot of humor, compassion, and empathy. I will meet you where you are at and work with you to create goals and therapeutic interventions that work for you as an individual. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, empowerment, and solution-focused counseling. I enjoy implementing art, music, play, and humor in my therapeutic approach. I believe that for therapy to be beneficial there needs to be a trusting, supportive, and sympathetic relationship between client and therapist; let's be honest, if you chose to work with me, you will be sharing deeply personal things and you need to be confident that your therapist is there for the right reason, to help you find peace and happiness. If you decide to work with me, I will happily be your supportive cheerleader on your path to holistic well being, peace, and happiness.
