Leanette Burns, LPC
About me
Hello and welcome. My name is Leanette Burns I live in the Houston Texas Area. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addictions Counselor in the state of Texas and am working on getting licensed in other states. I love my job. What I mean by that is I love helping others to meet their full potential in life. I think that in life we often fall into tunnel vision and think that things have to be the way they are and we just go along hoping for change. Well, that's just not true. We have the power to change the things that are happening to us and potentially change the path of our life and the path of our families life's. Counseling is a step in that direction. My belief is that the more we talk about the things that bother us the more we are able to process different ways to deal with them or change them.
I am a person centered counselor which means, I like to meet you where you are. I am willing and able to accept you as you are. We call this unconditional positive regard. I know that as humans we all make mistakes and we all find ourselves in places we may never have intended to be. Often times it is our cognitive distortions that make these things hard to deal with. Once we are able to see that it is our own inner thoughts and ideas that make us feel bad or put us in unintended places we are able to work to change them. I also work in CBT , Solution focused, Motivational interviewing , TBRI, Addictions CBT and talk therapy.
My previous experience is in working with those who struggle with addiction of all kinds, anxiety, those in the foster care system adults and children, those involved with the criminals justice system and CPS, domestic violence, sexual abuse, coping with divorce, family issues, families of addicts, estrangement, and those struggling with Trichotillomania.
