I have been a Social Worker for 34 years and have worked in a wide variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient mental health, in private practice, on military bases, and in VA hospitals. I am licensed in both South Carolina and in Louisiana. I have also worked overseas in Germany and Turkey.
The form of therapy I use is Cognitive Behavioral. Here is how the American Psychological Association describes Cognitive behavioral therapy: “Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness." CBT focuses on modifying harmful emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by uprooting and challenging negative or irrational beliefs. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications.”
As we work together, you will begin to understand the dysfunctional thinking and behavior patterns that are contributing to your problems. My role is to help you change those things that are getting in the way of your best life. You, of course, are the expert on your own life. I am not the leader of your journey - I just help you find the right path and give you support along the way. My work style is relaxed and informal. Honestly, Linda has helped me a great deal in just a few short weeks.
