About me

I have long been interested in the long term effects of childhood trauma on adult trajectories. I received my MA and PhD from the University of Virginia where I focused on identifying the post divorce family factors that mitigate the effects of divorce on children. I also became interested in the transition to adulthood, a very challenging time for many young people, and wanted to identify the factors that enhance/buffer an individual's ability to launch, and those that make this transition even more treacherous.

I specialize in working with anxiety related disorders and depression, as well as transition to adulthood and other major transitions, as well as relationship issues. My approach to therapy is tailored to the needs of each client. I work with adolescents and adults and offer individual, couples, and family therapy. I help individuals identify their goals and make the changes necessary to help them lead more productive and fulfilling lives. I am directive, and I provide a warm, caring and non-judgmental environment to explore the issues and life-events with which you may be struggling.

While I believe that our histories help us understand why we behave the ways we do, I do not believe that we should be trapped by our histories. I draw primarily from cognitive-behavioral, ACT, family systems, and insight-oriented schools of psychotherapy.
