About me

Aloha and mahalo for reading my profile! My name is Lisa Chilson-McCraw and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of Hawai’i, with over 6 years of clinical experience. I am very passionate about what I do and have followed a calling to support and help others through whatever brings them into therapy. I have had the privilege and honor of serving a multi-cultural and diverse group of individuals in a variety of settings. I have worked with individuals who have experienced trauma, domestic violence and abuse (survivors and offenders), substance use related issues, grief and loss, significant life changes, and the behaviors/emotions that are often associated.

I am a warm, genuine, and compassionate person, who listens with my whole heart, and truly wants to help others. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to share and work through whatever brings them into therapy. My clients are the experts in their own lives and each one has a unique perspective, life experience, and path. I meet my clients where they are and it is there that I come alongside and support them in their journey toward reaching their goals. I believe people heal and grow within the context of a healthy, trusting, and safe relationship, therefore, that is what I try to provide those that come to me for help. I lean toward a humanistic approach, client-centered, strengths-based, trauma-focused, solution-focused, faith-based and cognitive-behavioral modalities.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help. It is certainly a sign of strength to do so. We all need help and support at different times and seasons of our lives. Going at it alone can be very overwhelming and just too hard sometimes. I believe, wholeheartedly, that it is possible to heal, grow, and change. I would love to be a part of that process in your journey.

Lisa creates such a safe container rooted in trust, respect and integrity. It feels natural opening up to Lisa as I can tell she genuinely holds my best interests at heart. She does not search for endless amounts of issues, instead, focuses on building the self-awareness and tools to be able to navigate problems as they arise with confidence. I genuinely look forward to my sessions as she always shows up with full presence and warmth. I am so glad I chose to work with Lisa and could not recommend her highly enough.

Lisa is a kind and compassionate therapist. She helps to validate and process my experiences and emotions. She is versed in trauma therapy techniques, which I really needed after disliking a few unrelated in-person therapists. Lisa makes therapy easy and accessible. I’m so impressed by Betterhelp’s matching algorithm! This feels like the perfect match!

Lisa is kind and gentle. She not only has ample experience as a therapist but has life experience that I believe allowed her to understand me in a way someone without that experience would not truly be able to. She is very good at picking up on even subtle cues and catering the session accordingly. She has never made me feel pressured or judged and is really focused on progress, celebrating even the smallest steps in the right direction.
