About me

Hi! My name is Lisa Leogrande and I am a Professional Counselor living in Connecticut. I have over 15 years experience in providing therapy to an array of adults in various settings within a mental health community clinic and in private practice. Prior to moving into a clinical role, I provided case management services to clinic clients and consulted with area nursing homes on treatment for their patients. My experience is wide and varied which I put to use in my clinical work. If you are exploring counselor profiles than you have decided to begin a journey to address problems and concerns that you have been experiencing. Congratulations. Take your time and examine the various counselors available to you, choosing someone that you feel connected with when reading their profile.
My philosophy in working with others is based on a belief of shared respect. I use open non judgmental communication and humor to make a connection with my client as I feel that is the most important thing, lowering any feelings of vulnerability so that s/he understands this is a safe space in which to discuss things. Theoretically, I work within a Cognitive Behavioral approach with Dialectical Behavioral techniques to support growth and confidence. Most important, I enter the therapeutic relationship where the person is and support her/him in defining the reason for seeking counseling. Collaboration is very important. I believe everyone has coping tools and that circumstances can make those tools less accessible at times. Working together, those and other coping strategies will become easier to use and apply in trying times. I am present with my clients in times of distress and help them to celebrate their accomplishments. I feel it is sometimes my responsibility to help the person see the positive elements that are experienced on a day to day basis. In order to support increased confidence in using strategies, home assignments are given in which the person practices various skills.

Although we haven’t been working together for very long, Lisa has really validated my feelings and continues to help me through this difficult time in my life. I felt Instantaneously comfortable opening up and she has brought a lot of things to my attention that I hadn’t even thought about. She is thoughtful and wonderful to work with, anyone would be lucky to have her as their counselor!
