About Me

I am a licensed clinical social worker, licensed with the state of California. I also hold a Certificate in Sexual Health and Sex Therapy from the University of Michigan. I have been providing therapy/counseling services to individuals, families, and groups for more than eleven years. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, cancer, multiple health diagnoses, trauma, sexual health, body image, grief/grieving and many other types of concerns that are impacting the lives of the people that seek my services. I have provided individual and group therapy to cancer patients, their families, and caregivers as well as provided community education about sexual health, body image, depression and intimacy. I have also provided services to people with family, financial, professional and relationship concerns.

My style is warm, empathetic, and solution focused - there is a reason you are seeking assistance and I am committed to helping alleviate the distress you are currently experiencing. I provide a safe base for my clients by creating an atmosphere of mutual trust, honesty and transparency. I can assure a talk-space that is free of judgement, that is respectful and that is interactive. I use evidence-based therapies to help people create change and/or resolve the concerns that initiate our working relationship. Together, we discuss the method of therapy that is best suited to addressing your concern and create a treatment plan accordingly. I most frequently use acceptance commitment, cognitive behavioral, solution focused, psychodynamic and humanistic therapies to resolve the concerns that are presented to me.

It takes strength and courage to seek assistance and I want you to know that you are not alone, that it is possible to create change and improve your life. By reaching out I know that you are ready for this next step and I cannot wait to assist you!

Talking with Lori feels like confiding in a close friend. She has helped me through a lot, and provides a safe, comfortable space for me to talk about anything. I’m so grateful to have been matched with someone so personable.

Lori Barber is as professional and caring as they come. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great therapist.

It’s only been two sessions, but she already gets me and sympathies with my issues. All I need is someone to listen and she has done that very well thus far. I literally already feel better.

Lori has been absolutely amazing to work with. In just a couple months she has helped me process, resolve and release some issues I had been holding onto and trying to let go of for a very long time. She listens with full presence and non-judgement, and responds with total
understanding. I feel very safe in our sessions to speak my truth, and Lori also challenges me to see things in new ways I hadn’t previously considered. I am incredibly grateful to have found Lori, and I really value the time I get to spend with her. Lori really cares about the well-being of her clients, and she does a great job of helping her clients feel that care and support, which has really helped me to feel safe and grow :)

Lori is a treasure. She makes me feel so safe to share anything on my mind; in a short time, Lori’s advise has provided a marked difference in my work. I’m finally at a place to not take so much personally, or let that trigger stressors, and that’s due to Lori’s guidance. She’s great, I couldn’t be happier.
