About Me

Hello, I’m Louise Long, and I’m here to help no matter what you are going through.

As a therapist, I have more than 25 years of experience, and have worked with clients with many, many different problems. I believe that respect and building and maintaining trust are very important in therapy. My counseling style is empathic and solution-focused, and I believe strongly that you are a unique individual, and your treatment should be as unique and driven by you. I know how to listen, and I'm confident that if we both put in the time and effort, you can and will make progress.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed in New Mexico. I have a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I worked in California for several years, and then returned to my home state of New Mexico. Here in New Mexico, I have had a private practice and worked many years in community mental health services as a therapist and as a clinical supervisor and clinical director training other therapists.

Don't let the title Marriage and Family Therapist fool you. I don't work just with couples and families. I have experience with just about every type of client -- with individuals, couples, and families, but also with children and youth from age 5 to 12, teens age 13 to 18, and adults from age 18 to 90 or older.

Although my specialties have been mostly in trauma and addictions, I work with clients on many other issues. See below for a list of some of these. Please be aware that this is not a complete list.

I am not just a therapist -- I am also a mother and grandmother, and the mom of a sweet fur-baby, a long-hair Chihuahua who continually delights me. My favorite thing, other than this sweet little girl, is travel.

I am so excited to be here working with BetterHelp, and looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you.

I am so glad I joined Better Help and more so, that my therapist is Ms. Louise Long. I have never felt so supported, genuinely cared for, and that I could trust someone to give me such excellent coping skills and advice when I need it most. Anytime the subject of counseling comes up with family, friends, or coworkers, I never miss the chance to reccomend her! She is the absolute best!

Louise has been a wonderful addition to my life! You don’t have to be having “extreme” issues to want, need or benefit from therapy. I needed balance and perspective and Louise has provided that and more. Highly recommend!

Louise is a great therapist. She is a wonderful listener and has very good advice. She also is willing to tell me where I might be making some errors and I very much appreciate this.

Louise has been my counselor for close to a year now. She has always been kind and caring. She has always listened to me and gave me healthy ways to work through issues and become a better version of myself. I have been to a few other counselors and none have been able to help me the way Louise has.
