Dr. Lyndsey Motarefi

About Me

It is always darkest before the dawn. I am honored by the opportunity to journey alongside you as you courageously and proactively achieve your therapy goals.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over ten years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. Much of my time has been spent therapeutically assisting both youth and adults who struggle with substance abuse and other addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and other mental health issues. As a doctoral graduate of a board certified Clinical Sexologist program, I have extensive experience in couples, marriage, and sex therapy. Therefore, I am highly skilled in working with couples and individuals with relationship and sex specific concerns. My therapy style is primarily solution focused, as it is important to me that my clients are aware of their goals for therapy and are actively involved in reviewing their progress towards meeting them. I do however incorporate CBT, narrative, experiential, and other therapy modalities to tailor treatment to meet the unique needs of each client.

I received my B.A. in psychology from the University of Connecticut and my Master’s Degree in marriage and family therapy from NorthCentral University. I have served in various primary therapist and clinical directorship roles in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers both in South Florida and Southern California. I have also worked as a charter school therapist for adolescents.

I look forward to working with you!

I was nervous to start therapy and to find a counselor that best suit me, but Dr. Motarefi immediately put me at ease. She is very professional, respectful, and knowledgeable. She listens carefully and provides effective advice, which has led to more progress than I thought I could make. I am so thankful I was matched with Dr. Motarefi. She is everything I had hoped to find in a counselor and now I look forward to each session. She has helped me immeasurably and I could not possibly thank her enough.

We are just getting started but I have been really impressed with the responsiveness and expertise of Dr. M. I have had therapy in the past and I feel like Dr. M through better help is far more flexible and more responsive to my needs than any other therapist I’ve ever had . She even checked in with me on a Saturday evening... I was pleasantly shocked... none of my other “in person” therapists ever made themselves available as much or checked in with me. I feel very confident in my decision to use this service and have made several recommendations to my friends.
