About me

Hello. My name is Maggen (preferably Meg) and i am a licensed therapist in New York. I am also a credentialed substance abuse counselor. I received my undergraduate degree from Daemen College with a BA in Psychology and then went on to pursue my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. From here, I am currently at a program through UB to work on becoming trauma certified. While I only have 6 years of experience in the professional world, I have a lifetime's worth of experience that can make me relatable and hopefully help you to feel more comfortable. Please understand that this is not just a job for me. I am genuinely here for you! I originally started my work in the substance abuse field in an outpatient setting moving to a methadone maintenance clinic. I then transitioned to solely mental health and have worked with a wide range of populations including generalized anxiety, major depression, bipolar disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. In both settings i had the opportunity to work in individual and group environments as well as family sessions.
My approach to therapy is client centered: clients are the experts on their lives and determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to aid in discovering dysfunctional thought patterns leading to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I support clients through developing skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving clients towards a life involving the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom.
Outside of therapy, my favorite things to do are be outside soaking up as much sun as possible and spending time with my husband and our 3 kids. Watching Grey's Anatomy on repeat is a must, while also walking my dog, reading, and baking for my family.

Maggen is very kind and understanding. She has really helped me to feel more okay with my emotions and experiences; I feel more valid and empowered. I have come to many realizations about myself with Maggen's help and I already see the progress I have made. I am very thankful to have her as my therapist.
