Hello! I am Maiah Merino and I am a licensed mental health counselor. I was trained as a Family Systems Therapist, meaning, I acknowledge the familial stories that were passed down and look at how those may be shaping your current narrative. I am Person-Centered, listening and following your lead as we develop goals and practices together that support your Counseling experience. I also utilize Creative Arts, Mindfulness, Narrative (stories and writing), Solution-focused, along with reflection to add support in a variety of ways for those I work with.
I have worked with many people who have experienced trauma physically, sexually, and mentally. And because of this my training with early childhood is shared with Adults in regards to issues of Attachment and Intimacy in relationships. I have also supported people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief & loss, parenting issues, life transitions and building greater self-esteem and confidence.
If you choose to work with me, our work will be interactive, creative, engaged and warm. Your healing path is unique and I look forward to supporting you in the ways that work for you! Congratulations on taking this first step!!!

Maiah is wonderful, great listener, open minded, and lots of creative ways for me to help process all that is goin on in my life. She helps me understand I do not have to "fix" my life- but better approach challenges. I like homework so lots of suggestions on how to recenter and calm down all week- between sessions.

I have been in counseling with Maiah for over a year. Maiah listens and acknowledges my perspective. She challenges me to think deeply and encourages me to be honest with myself. She understands grief and its complex facets. She has guided me through this last year following my mother’s passing by giving me tools and profoundly supportive practices that have helped me process and embrace all the difficult feelings.
Maiah is truly professional and compassionate. She’s also so wise and challenges me to view my experiences in ways that help me better understand how to navigate the challenges in a safe space. Maiah encourages me to embrace my culture which has nurtured my connection with my ancestors and my mama.
I would highly recommend Maiah as a therapist - especially for anyone coping with grief or loss as she is so very skilled, supportive and knowledgeable.

Maiah is a very kind and listening therapist. Her approach of working with patients to find things that we aren't able to see in ourselves, and helping to understand why things may have worked before but now they are no longer serving to better us. She helped explain some of my 'stuff' back to me in a way that I could understand but it came across as genuine, kind, non threatening, andnon judging.
I really enjoy Maiah's approach, as well as just as a person. I think Maiah would work really well with most people..

Maiah is wonderful. She is a great listener. She has the ability to get me talking about things I have buried in the past and offers solutions to help cope with the issues. I've also have a couple situations that kept me from using our scheduled session via video or phone and she has quickly come up with solutions. The chat feature was a solution I utilized one time .

Written on Jan 11, 2022 after therapy with Maiah for 3 years and 4 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, and bipolar disorder
Maiah is a wonderful listener. I finally feel heard. She leaves enough silent space to finish your thought and the resources and tools she has to understand and move forward are SO helpful. I love how she writes down the big things we talked about on the board. To read them back to myself after the convoys had, is another eye opening thing for me. It helps me hear what I said out loud and digest it.
Very thankful for this match!

I decided to give the Better Help app a shot when I was struggling to pull myself out of depression. Maiah was the first (and only counselor I used) assigned to me when I started. We did weekly sessions because at first I really needed them. She helped coach me in places I never knew I needed help in. She brought to light a few different areas I needed just some coaching on and I was able to get back to my normal self, but even with a stronger voice than I had before. I really appreciated having her as my counselor and my ear. She is very kind, very understanding, she truly is amazing. Thank you Maiah for bringing out the stronger me and helping me kick depressions butt!

Mariah has been so incredibly helpful. I'm not one to share too much and as a result have been bottling up emotions for a very long time. Mariah listens, gives me things to think about and tools to help me get through very difficult mind conversations that can swirl out of control. With Mariah, I feel comfortable and that she cares.

Maiah's expertise is exactly what I have needed. She offers insightfulness and has opened my eyes to more realistic ways to manage my anxiety. She is the reason that I'm able to see anxiety as a part of me that CAN be explored, analyzed, and polished in a way that it is less debilitating. Working with Maiah has allowed me to accept that anxiety may be something I am prone and may not necessarily go away completely, but it doesn't have to break me or control me. I will always recommend her and the series of Betterhelp. This app saved me from suffering since it allows more flexibility! Thank you!
