My name is Mari Flatt and I have been working in mental health counseling for about eight years (two years while in Graduate School). I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from North Dakota State University and I received my Master's degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota. I am currently licensed in Colorado (LPC), North Carolina (LCMHC), and Tennessee (LPC).
During my time in this profession, I have worked with many individuals struggling with a wide variety of issues such as; depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress management, grief/loss, ADHD, relationship discord, family conflict, and trauma. When working with someone on an issue that I may not be very familiar with, I educate myself on the topic so I can provide the best level of care. I have worked a good deal with children, trauma victims (specifically domestic violence and sexual assault), and couples. I have worked with military members and their families for four years. With this work along with being a military spouse myself and a former police officer, I have a unique understanding of the culture and stressors for first responders/military.
My counseling style is warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I believe in meeting clients where they are regardless of success or set-backs and celebrating those small victories and providing encouragement along the way. My counseling approach combines person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and solution focused techniques. I will, however, tailor my counseling approach to meet your specific needs.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, two daughters, and Husky. I love going to sporting events, concerts, running half marathons, and watching/reading true crime.
Getting started is a big step and can sometimes seem overwhelming, but I am here to provide you support and motivation along the way! I look forward to working with you on a healthier YOU!

Mari is an amazing therapist. What I appreciate most is how she challenges me to dig deeper, to think harder on self analyzing.

Mari has been fantastic to work with so far. I am new to therapy and so I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am to be working with her. She listens and doesn’t make you feel you are being studied. She is real, and very kind. Work with her will be a wise choice for anyone considering getting help,

I’ve been working with Mari for quite some time now, I believe I first signed up April/May 2021. Her help has been instrumental in the progress I’ve made this year. I feel so lucky to have been partnered with a therapist that allowed me to communicate on my terms and was always responsive and helpful. My life has been in a really great place for the last few months, so I haven’t written as often but she still provides the same excellent service every time. I highly recommend Mari Flatt and BetterHelp!

Fits what my needs and wants are in a therapist. Being able to communicate if and when I need help, but not feeling confined to a set schedule has been helpful. She seems in tune with what my concerns are and I'm excited to continue to work with Mari.
