About me

Hello! My name is Mariam and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over seven years of experience providing therapy services and another 7 years providing direct services to juveniles and families. I have worked in outpatient and residential mental health treatment. I work with clients looking to improve their life by addressing historical trauma, building coping skills, work on achieving goals, and building better relationships. I use individual, group and family work.

Born and raised in Michigan, I studied undergrad at Adrian College, a small liberal arts school. I worked in residential juvenile care for years before moving on the University of Michigan School of Social Work. I have practiced in a variety of settings and I'm comfortable working with people with a criminal history and those who are currently justice-involved.

My approach to therapy is client centered. I recognize that my clients are the experts on their own lives and they come to me for assistance building coping skills and determining how to solve life problems. I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients. We start by setting goals to develop a treatment plan which will draw on client strengths and identify the things each client needs to accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to aid in discovering dysfunctional thought patterns leading to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I support clients through developing skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving clients towards a life worth living.
