Dr. Martha Horn, LCPC
About me
Hi, my name is Martha Horn. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. I have a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Alabama and a PhD in Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland. I have been a therapist for over 25 years.
I have worked with clients on a wide range of issues and concerns, including depression, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, relationship issues, and LGBTQ issues. My approach is an eclectic one that includes cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic theories and techniques, depending on the issues and the needs of my clients.
Something that I believe is unique to my work is that I believe religion and spirituality are two very different things. To me, religion is about a specific set of beliefs and traditions. Spirituality, however, is about one’s sense of connection: to others, to nature, or to a Higher Power/God/Goddess/the Holy (or whatever one chooses to call this Source). I am NOT a “religious” counselor. However, I have worked with clients from a variety of religious traditions: various denominations of Christian, Unitarian, Buddhist, Muslim, Wiccan, as well as with clients who considered themselves to be atheist or agnostic. My education and training include clinically appropriate and responsible ways to incorporate a client’s spirituality as a tool for healing if and when a client desires to do that.
It’s sometimes hard to find a good “fit” with a counselor. If you would like to find out if I might be a good fit for you, let’s find out together. I’d love to work with you!
