About Me

I am a clinical social worker licensed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Florida. I have helped my clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, family conflict, self-esteem issues, life transitions, and marital discord. My clinical approach is determined on a case by case basis, and I will work in collaboration with you to design a treatment plan that will suit your unique style and therapeutic goals. I believe that you are the expert of your own life, and my job is to provide guidance and support to help you achieve the life you desire.
I am a huge fan of cognitive behavioral therapy and have found this approach to be very effective when treating my clients who are experiencing anxiety and depression. Other approaches that I may incorporate include: narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness- orientated therapy, and a humanistic approach.
Begining therapy can be scary, especially if you are not sure what to expect! If you choose to work with me, you will find the experience to be supportive, non-judgemental, and effective. I am looking forward to meeting you!

Mary Karlan listens to me with eye contact. She makes me believe in tomorrow as she also shares her own experience in some of my concerns, and how she has overcome all of them.

Mary is very knowledgeable about the steps I can take to reduce my anxiety - this is so helpful, as I love having a toolbox of strategies to use. And she listens to my issues with no judgment!

My favorite thing so far was the “fairy dust story” exercise Mary did with me. It helped me return to who I am, my true self, my higher self. In that experience Mary helped me return to a positive focus on myself. She guided me back to healing myself instead of verbally and mentally lashing out at others. Thank you, Mary!

Mary has been great in our two sessions thus far. She listens, provides examples of her own to empathize, and gives actionable feedback. Also sending along work sheets and messages aster sessions as follow up. I’ve enjoyed her so far!
