Mary Slaton

(LPC, NCC)

About Me

My name is Mary Slaton, LPC, NCC. I earned my counseling degree from Loyola in 2001. When everything is aligned in our lives, we feel happy and fulfilled, but we all encounter obstacles. At times, we need encouragement and guidance to find our way back. Seeking counseling shows a belief in your ability to bring about positive change in your life.

I am here to assist you and encourage you as you explore alternatives that lead to the satisfying life you envision. I believe that we are goal-oriented, but we are sometimes unaware of how we're trying to gain that feeling of significance and satisfaction. Along the path to achieving your goals, it helps me to find out about the various areas of your life, such as social, spiritual, love, self, and work. As we explore the various areas of your life, we’ll discover patterns. As we uncover these, we can determine what is working for you, so we can explore ways of increasing these positive experiences in other areas of your life.

I believe people have the capacity for self-awareness and the ability to resolve their problems with support and assistance. So many people wander through life feeling like there's more or that things could be different, so thank you for taking that brave step toward setting the goals that will bring you the relief, happiness, and joy that we all seek.

I've never felt, ever in my life, like I really had someone in my corner like I do when I talk to M.
She gives me the space to say the things I didn't know I needed to say & she gives advice that's completely free of woo-woo.
Our therapeutic relationship has changed my life.

Mary has done so much to help me work through many tough situations. I always feel like she invested in my journey and a strong ally in my corner. She is always supportive and cheers on your accomplishments while also making sure that set backs never feel like failure but an opportunity to learn something new.

Mary is AMAZING! She helped me through so much trauma from toxic relationships and helped me to realize my sense of self-worth and build confidence. I could not recommend her more! Mary listens so well and truly cares about her clients. She has done a great job of helping me through situations and feelings in my life that I didn't consciously realize were affecting me. Mary is very non-judgemental and professional and is SO easy to speak to. I was apprehensive initially about getting counseling and I am so glad that I did and that I found Mary. She has given me tools that I use daily that guide me through every up and down and has really helped me to manage my stress and find balance in my life. I have found so much happiness, strength, and confidence through working with her. Mary is wonderful, I highly recommend her!

Mary is excellent hands down. She listens first and then responds. She has never made me feel embarrassed, judged, ashamed, or uncomfortable telling her things. I would recommend Mary to anyone wanting a counselor that helps you see the potential you are capable of and pushes you there gently.

I’ve only been meeting with Mary a short time, but I find her to be kind, patient, nonjudgmental and full of helpful incite. I feel confident in progressing on and wasn’t certain I would feel that way using an online format.

Mary has equipped me with the tools to help me navigate my way through grief, stress and anxiety. The mechanisms Mary taught me in the first few weeks we had been in contact have helped me immensely and I am sure they will continue to do so for the rest of my life. Mary has a friendly, thoughtful nature and I feel very much at ease discussing my innermost feelings and experiences with her. Mary is both genuinely caring and professional, which I believe is the ultimate combination in a counselor.

In only two sessions Mary has already taught me CBT tools, I feel less anxious and stressed and thankfully some relief. She is easy to talk to and made me feel very comfortable, she has asked thought provoking questions and shown me a way forward.

Mary seems to be a well trained counselor. She always understands my situation and is very respectful. She delivers good advice that has helped me deal with my current issues. Since we live in different time zones it sometimes takes a while to respond to each other, but of course that's not her fault. During our live sessions she is very comforting and will always listen to what I have to say.
