About Me

Welcome!
Taking this step to better yourself is the beginning of a journey and the destination is up to you. It takes a great amount of courage to admit to needing help and even more to seek it out. As a therapist, I am a teammate or guide on this journey to who you would like to become. I would like you to get to know me a little and the core principles of my therapy.
I started therapy a little later in life after returning to school following a period of disability. I have a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling. I am also currently pursuing my Doctorate of Psychology and should graduate in 2021. I grew up on the Gulf Coast in Texas, but now live in the Rocky Mountains in Arvada, CO.. Currently, I maintain licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I have a passion for helping others and am dedicated to my client's needs. As a therapist, the agency I worked for was involved in helping deal with the recovery of Hurricane Harvey and the Santa Fe, TX school shooting. This experience has increased my awareness and practice using CBT for trauma. Working with anxiety, PTSD, and extensive trauma with clients. I also have worked in the area of self-esteem, confidence, respect, and communication. All are keys to becoming a powerful person.
At the beginning of therapy, I believe there has to be a period of safety, trust, and relationship building. Once this is done the work can begin. I like to work hard and provide my clients with immediate tools and thoughts to improve their world. There needs to be an understanding of the client gets to experience their life and the therapist should respect this by acknowledging they are the expert. The goal of CBT is to help change the distorted or incorrect thoughts in one's life and this will lead to better outcomes. The betterment of one's understanding of themselves leads to a better understanding of the world.
This is a big step to open up to someone and discuss your personal challenges or issues that are occurring. I would like you to know that I am passionate about being positive and thrive to help others. Consider your choice wisely and pick the best fit for you. I am low pressure, laid back, but have a belief in giving life 100%, whatever that looks like for the day. Hope to meet you soon.
Matthew D. Jones

I really appreciate Matt, we work through issues I have and if I'm feeling good for the week, and don't have any stressful things I need to talk about, we build our relationship. It is easier for me to open up to therapists/counselors when I get to know them well. The only issues I have with betterhelp is the occasional call drop or lag in the call. Over all a 9/10 for the app and a 10/10 for Matthew.

I felt comfortable talking with Matt. I liked being his patient and continue to look forward to many more sessions with him in the future.

Matt is very patient and understanding, it took me a while to open up but when the flood gates opened he was there to listen and help me work through it and provide strategies and tools to continue working through things. After every session I feel better than when I came in and that’s the whole point! 10/10 would recommend!

Written by G.A. on Jun 24, 2021 after counseling with Matthew for 2 weeks on issues concerning stress, anxiety, sleeping disorders, self esteem, and anger management

Matt has guided me to make major strides in my path to understanding and sorting daily issues and creating a true work life balance. He has provided me with the exact tools and examples to help build the skills to manage anxiety. Major improvements have been made in a short period of time and I would recommend Matt to anyone who is looking to address problems head on and putting the time in to do so. Real life tools, real life skills and real life changing results.

Matt is a wonderful listener who is patient and respectful and will have your best interest at heart. He truly cares and is empathetic to any type of situation. He always has uplifting advice to offer but is also honest, even when the honesty can be hard to take, he only does so to better the individual. He has helped me tremendously and it’s great to know that Matt can be trusted as a safe place for me in my time of healing. Highly recommend!

Matthew is great! A fantastic listener that has allowed me to spend the majority of our sessions just venting and sharing my life in an open and accepting way. In a time of COVID isolation having a person to talk with openly is incredibly valuable.

When I found out that I had access to this program I realized I didnt need to keep what was going on to myself anymore and, Matthew is such a great person to talk to, he truly listens and responds on a level of understanding. He really sees the heart of the situation and is very encouraging and insightful. The world is full of negativity, Matthew realizes that, and works on reinforcing a positive mental attitude which the world simply needs more of and as individuals we are called to provide. Thank you better help and thank you Matthew for being there for me.

Matthew. Is the best counsdelor, I have ever worked with. It's like he's literally in my head. In a short of amount of time he has helped me to do some deep thinking about where my life is headed. I have made some decisions that I probably wouldn't have made if I wasn't speaking to him. He is supportive and encouraging. I recommend Better Help to several friends. I wish I could send them all to Matthew. Thanks for being Amazing Matthew.

I was very hesitant in starting therapy again! I have tried traditional therapy and they always wanted to have the same conversation all the time. Matthew really listens to me and understands where I been, where I am at and where I want to be! He is unlike any other therapist I have had, but it’s exactly what I need!

After 14 years of therapy, I’ve not once come across another counselor that helped me the way Matt has. He is what makes Betterhelp worth while. Even with issues with fearing men, Matt has always made me feel safe and heard. He has helped me realize that I have it within myself to help myself, and that alone has helped me heal more than anything. If I could recommend him to everyone, I would; Even if I was just recommending him as a friend.

Matthew is great. I just started therapy recently. He paces between follow up and allowing me time to work on my own. He is very insightful, and can balance heavy topics with appropriate humor and serious tones as needed. His approach definitely allows me to develop my own muscles so to speak. If you are looking for a therapist that will help you develop and learn skills, as well as provide insight I definetly recommend him.

Honestly I was hesitant to start counseling. First step is admitting you need to start talking to someone because you have a problem. Matt has truly given me a new perspective on life. How complex and simply life can be viewed. I love how he challenges me to be a better person, how to turn great habits into a lifestyle, and little tips and tricks to just make life easier. I love how I feel after our sessions because I can vent and Matt will find a way to put it in to perspective to where I can learn something or build on success. I honesty believe I am a better person since meeting Matt. I am excited to continue talking to him and growing as a better human being! Cheers.

Mr. Jones is a very affable, gregarious counselor who keeps a good humor about him and demonstrates excellent knowledge of his field. He is sympathetic, understanding and intelligent, and quickly grasps what your needs are. He can provide quick insight into alternate possibilities that could be true instead of your current cognitive distortions and apply both logic and emotion to your current situation. I would highly recommend Mr. Jones as a counselor.

I was really nervous about getting a therapist in the first place and worried that I wouldn't like whoever's I was assigned. Matt has been a huge help just with messaging back and forth and I find his sense of humor alleviating. I'm feeling like I got pretty lucky for a first draw.
