About Me

Warm Greeting from the beautiful state of New Mexico, where I am licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor for the last 20 years. My name is Megan Rafferty and I have been enjoying doing counseling for a total of 30 years. I look forward to meeting you.
Is there something in your life you are struggling with ? Is there some part of you that is in pain emotionally? Maybe you would like to learn how to better handle a situation?
Together we can build emotional safety for you to explore and discover what you wish to.
Using a non judgmental, client centered , holistic approach, we can build on your strengths and explore the areas that of interest and concern to you.
Together we can find meaning and depth in what you walking through, and also help you find balance and awareness for your whole being (mind/body/spirit/emotions/behavior). We can approach life's challenges and stay curious to see if there may be any thoughts or emotions that may be holding you back from your potential and your power to positively change your life.
Throughout the years , I have been a counselor/trainer/mediator/professor and worked with adults, teens, children, families, parents, couples, and groups in issues of grief and loss, moving through life changes, stress management, communication, family systems, divorce and separation, marriage therapy, art therapy, parenting, workplace conflict, LGBTQQIP2SAA +, caregiving a loved one, and finding your life's meaning and purpose.
If we stay open minded and attuned to supporting your whole being and your goals, it is amazing what positive internal and external changes may occur.
People make wonderful changes and heal on a really regular basis, and you can too become more of your authentic beautiful self.

Please note: If in the last few months you have been feeling suicidal or having thoughts of wanting to hurt yourself, I would not be able to work with you because I am working part-time only, and availability would be limited. It would be better to chose a counselor who is working full-time for BetterHelp. BetterHelp is not an emergency service, please contact 911 or please call 1-800-273-8285 if feeling like you want to hurt yourself. or others.

Thank you,
Megan Rafferty, M.Ed, LPCC, LMT

Megan exudes positive energy and allows a free and open space to dive into your thoughts and tendencies to better understand yourself and allow you to grow. She is amazing at teaching meditation and her meditation and mindfulness practices are truly a great experience. I would recommend Megan to anyone who needs help growing and learning new techniques to re-wire your brain for the better.

Megan is patient, kind, and intelligent. I was skeptical about therapy for the longest time, but as soon as I opened up to Megan, I realized how beneficial it is for me. She’s helped me work through a lot of things and I like that in each session, we tackle a different problem. No two sessions are the same for us - which is a good thing. At times she’s been my only source of encouragement and positivity, and I cannot thank her enough for this. I also really appreciate that I can talk to her about absolutely anything, and she has never told me that something is “out of her scope”. I trust her a lot and look forward to working on my personal goals with her help.

Written by M.A. on Sep 27, 2021 after therapy with Megan for 3 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, sleeping disorders, self esteem, and coping with life changes

Megan always makes me feel so heard and understood. She helped me learn how to express my anger in a healthy way.

Written by G.R. on Sep 06, 2021 after therapy with Megan for 1 month on issues concerning relationship issues, family conflicts, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, coping with life changes, and compassion fatigue

Working on my issues and confronting my problems isn’t easy but Megan makes it a worthwhile, valuable, and effective experience. She listens carefully to what I say and gives me techniques to help me cope with and overcome problem thinking. Then it’s up to me to tailor the technique to make it work best for me, and Megan supports that. She is my cheerleader, she is an external brain to help me make sense of my thought processes, and she has a wide array of strategies at the ready when I need something to grasp onto quickly. A small part of me gets a little anxious a couple minutes before therapy is going to start but for the most part I look forward to each session. And I think that the small amount of anxiousness is good because any big goal worth doing usually comes with big challenges and if I’m not passionate about it then I’m not going to have any feelings about it at all and quit. So in this case small anxiety is good and equates to passion for my goal to make myself feel better, relate better, and generally be happier and more satisfied with my life choices. Thank you to Megan for setting me on a good path to a happier and more laughier me.

Megan is extremely helpful and compassionate. I've had a few therapists before, but she is definitely the best one I've had. Her expertise and interpersonal skills shine through her sessions.

You can choose how you'd like to have sessions and how long they will be (in case you need to jump off early) and she sends helpful notes from the session, optional exercises, and worksheets to complete after!
