Megan Walhood

About Me

My name is Megan Walhood, and I've been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 5 years, but I've been working in the mental health field since 2007. I practiced outpatient counseling in Central Wisconsin before moving to the Madison area. I currently work at Rogers Behavioral Health in Oconomowoc, and I am excited to join BetterHelp so I can be connected with clients who either prefer online counseling, or clients who otherwise might not have access to professional counseling services.

I offer individual counseling with an LGBTQ-friendly approach, and I specialize in treating people with anxiety, depression, and OCD. Because I believe in an evidence-based approach to treatment, I specialize in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). However, I've also learned that therapy needs to allow for flexibility to adapt to the unique needs of each client, so I also incorporate skills from solution-focused, existential, and narrative therapy techniques. My practice is guided by the Code of Ethics from the American Counseling Association.

My style is warm and interactive. My approach is grounded in deep respect for the courage and commitment to change that is needed in therapy, but I like to use humor when appropriate since it is part of my personality, and it can help strengthen the therapeutic relationship. My role is to first earn your trust by creating an environment of safety, authenticity, and acceptance. Then I can offer skills and techniques that can help relieve pain, and further develop existing strengths. I look forward to the chance to work with you!

Megan continues to be incredible. So helpful, calm (which I need), and good at listening. Thank you!

Megan is probably the best therapist I’ve ever had. She is so approachable and understanding. She’s always willing to work with my crazy work schedule while at the same time keeping me accountable. She doesn’t make me feel pressured to do things, but instead makes me feel like I want to do the assignments I get. She really is amazing!

Megan helps me understand the process she feels is best to take for counseling that she feels will best helps me. She also provides resources for between sessions.
