My name is Melanie Beck, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. I've been employed as a counselor for almost five years. Right now, I work primarily with teenagers and young adults, but I also have experience working with parents and other family members, so I'm comfortable talking with people of all ages. I do a lot of work with people who are depressed, anxious, stressed, and dealing with trauma. I'm comfortable treating a wide range of issues, and consider myself a pretty flexible counselor. I like to ask for feedback from my clients to make sure that what we're doing together is working for them. I have lots of training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Most of these treatment approaches can be adapted for any individual experiencing emotional issues. I believe that the most important parts of being a therapist are to be non-judgmental and to help a person understand that their experiences and feelings are normal and manageable. I like to use humor when it's appropriate; and most importantly, I want my clients to know that I'm human, too! I am really very passionate about what I do for a living, and I think that it shows in my work. If you think we might be a good match for each other, I'd love to meet you and see how I can help.

Melanie is extremely respectful. Has been great at listening fully to me and helping me come up with solutions to the problems I’m dealing with, and working with me to come up with tools I can use to handle certain situations and deal with longer term issues. Highly recommend!
I’ve gone through other therapists outside of BetterHelp. My dynamic with them often felt forced and much like a “doctor, patient” relationship. It didn’t feel authentic and thus I didn’t feel like I had a comfortable space to talk through my raw emotions and just be myself with. However, having a few sessions with Melanie and I am grateful to say that is not the case with her. She’s done a great job at breaking that wall down and making me feel like more than just a patient. With her I simply feel like a person who just needs to talk things through. She’s encouraging, funny, insightful, and asks great questions in which I feel helps me get to the root of a lot of my internal issues. Melanie also responds quite fast whenever I have something weighing heavy on my mind. Therapy used to feel like a task that I didn’t want to do but with her it feels like a form of self care. I honestly have grown so much in just a few months and I want to thank her for helping out.
Listens, understands and gives good advice.
Melanie is amazing! I have been working with her weekly, and our conversations just easily flow. She is very easy to open up to and is always open to contact outside of the session if you are having a good or bad day. It is evident that she cares about her clients.
Melanie has been absolutely fantastic! She is helping me cope during a tough time using DBT practices that are interactive and effective.
