About me

Enjoying life can be difficult when you are simply dealing with day-to-day stress, not to mention the big challenges you face. My role as a therapist is to support you in finding solutions for some issues and, learning to regulate difficult emotions or cope with the distress of harder issues. Maybe your goals are to be healthier, increase time management skills, or create better relationships with the other people in your life. In that case I would be a motivator with reminders and plans as I accompany you on your journey, non-judgmentally supporting your vision. I can also go deeper with you to discuss incidents and elevated/depressed emotional states. We would work together to create coping strategies and increase distress tolerance over time.

I live in the Greater Denver Area and I graduated from Naropa University with a Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy with an emphasis in Buddhist Psychology in Boulder, Colorado. At Naropa I did trainings on a wide variety of mindfulness meditation techniques and somatic movement therapies to address the body and mind. I am a meditation instructor and would be happy to help you incorporate creative and awareness-based practices into your routine. Currently, I see clients one-on-one privately, run DBT groups, do family therapy interventions, and facilitate psycho-educational groups for clients that have recently come out of residential treatment for substance abuse. I am accustomed to working with clients who are going through big life changes, creating healthier habits, coping with loneliness, working with LGBT shifts/stigma, increasing self esteem, or having relationship problems with family, friends, and/or romantic partners.

My specialties include: DBT, CBT, EMDR, Modern Psychoanalysis, Clinical Mentoring, Relapse Prevention, Contemplative Practices, and Trauma Informed Care. I have experience working closely with clients that have a range of functionality issues and mental health diagnosis including: ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bi-Polar I & II, PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Compulsive Disorders, Self Harming Behaviors, and Substance Abuse Disorders. Whether you need to get better grades, adjust your career, address past traumatic events, or change problematic behaviors, there is a better path we can create for your body and mind.

I enjoy working with my clients in-person, but online therapy is simply the best option for many people. Online therapy also allows me to reach people within the great state of Colorado that live in remote areas on any day no matter the weather. My flexible schedule permits me to be able to meet you on all the different platforms, according to what you need individually. Message me to discuss how you can manifest the version of you that is healthy, enjoying life, and feeling fulfilled.

Melissa is a great therapist and someone I look forward to talking to every week.

Written on Sep 20, 2020 after therapy with Melissa for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, lgbt, and self esteem

Melissa has been great, I tend to ramble on and go off topic because I have so much going on at once and even since the first session she was able to tell me things about myself that make so much sense, I’ve tried counseling before multiple times actually and I’ve never felt like I can connect with a counselor I always end up feeling patronized or like they don’t fully understand what I’m trying to say because again I’m very energetic about what’s going on in my head and it’s hard to focus out certain things, so far Melissa has done a great job of understanding me and helping me cope and honestly just talking to someone who gets it and feels like they are on your level and not looking down on you. I’m still very new to this and have only had 2 sessions but the messaging feature with app is amazing, I’ll check my app when I’m feeling like sharing something and Melissa will already have sent a work sheet or even just hello and seeing how I’ve been doing with recent issues, very very very pleased with how this has been going so far and I actually for the first time in a while feel like I have a chance at getting back to where I want to be
