Welcome and thank you for visiting my profile! I have been practicing psychotherapy for 15 years and believe that everyone can benefit from having a space to process their experiences. Over the years clients have told me they enjoy working with someone with a holistic approach who values the mind, body, and spirit, looking at all of the dynamics that make up a persons life experience. I use an integrative approach, combining both traditional and modern styles of therapy. I understand that you know yourself best and will always offer you direct feedback, support, and respect throughout your treatment.
How does therapy work? Psychotherapy is a process focused on communication and behavior change which can greatly improve mental health. Therapy can assist when a person is struggling with life and is in great pain or upset. It can improve your sense of well being and help to identify barriers that stop you from living your fullest, most enjoyable life. Some of my specialties are in the areas of : anxiety and trauma, addiction, grief and depression, health and chronic illness, relationships and parenting, self esteem and spirituality.
I am licensed as a clinical psychotherapist in both New York and New Mexico. During my career I have worked as a health educator, family court advocate, youth counselor, psychiatric social worker, in addition to teaching at several college mental health and science programs. My education includes a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from the School of Social Welfare at the State University of New York , in addition to a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology & Women’s Studies. Since obtaining my degree, I have been involved with various health organizations to promote health and well being, in addition to utilizing art and meditation in my practice. I have studied transcendental meditation, therapeutic touch energy healing, as well as being a certified Reiki Master Teacher.
I'm happy you have taken the first step in taking charge of your life and I look forward to working with you! I offer sessions via phone, video, messaging and live chat.

Melissa is patient, compassionate, and kind. I have enjoyed our sessions, and look forward to continuing to work with her during this challenging period of transition in my life.
We’ve only started our therapy sessions, but I’m confident that she will help me.
Very helpful :)
My first time using Better Help and I am glad I have been matched w/ someone who listens thoroughly, asks questions, and provides multiple suggestions that fits best for certain situations. I look forward to working with Melissa again!
She’s a great counselor and person. She listens thoughtfully and is proactive about coming up with different ways to address the problem. I feel like I can tell her anything and she won’t judge me, but will try to help me (or teach me how to help myself).
Melissa is great. She balances good listening with adding valuable insight. Melissa is able to push you outside your comfort zone while doing it in a gentle way.
So far my work with Melissa has been lovely. She "hears" what I'm saying and is able to hone in on things I might not be paying attention to. She is clear and thoughtful with her responses and does not make me feel judged. She also doesn't preach at me or tell me what to do. Our work is on the newer side, but for the first time I feel comfortable with my therapist and look forward to continuing with her.
Really happy with Melissa! Her approach and understanding are on-point!
