About Me

Welcome! I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Illinois with over 12 years of experience. I specifically have a specialty in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, such as perinatal depression, anxiety, OCD, and psychosis. For 10 years I catered my practice to pregnant and parenting individuals. I have also worked extensively with those suffering through a loss or miscarriage, as well as those with children in the NICU. Having catered to many new parents, I have found the role of the therapist an integral part of the new parent support system. In addition to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, I have also worked with couples as a Gottman level II trained therapist. This completes a well rounded area of my studies as many going through the transition to parenthood often end up with relationship or marital issues at this particular time in their life.

While my primary focus is on the perinatal woman, I have also worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, life transitions, and trauma/PTSD. I have worked with adults as well as adolescents on many of these issues.

My counseling style is warm and interactive but also to the point. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy, as well as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to look for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

I have been speaking with Melissa for a week now and she has been very responsive, supportive and given advice when needed. I was not sure how this system would work but it has been brilliant so far. I would recommend Melissa highly.
