About me

Hello and Welcome! My name is Melissa and I am ready to help. I have 11 years’ experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor(LCMHCS) and support individuals as they navigate life's ups and downs. I believe we all have it within us to learn and grow and create the life we want and needs guidance and skills along the way. I am licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. My focus is on individuals that struggle with depression, anxiety, and life stressors. Negative self-talk is a common struggle most have in their lives. It starts when we are young and accumulates overtime. It can get to a point where we sabotage ourselves, believing statements that aren’t true. Identifying and then challenging these thoughts are a stepping stone to increasing positive self-esteem and confidence in oneself. It is an opportunity to re-write what we tell ourselves day to day. It can encourage and create a more positive life. Communication is another area that with support can help increase positive interactions and communications with others, increasing our happiness in lie.
I create a warm and inviting environment that helps you to be comfortable and meet you where you. Goals are created so that we stay focused on what is important to you and take tangible steps to meet them. I listen and together, we build skills to help change in healthy ways old habits and routines that no longer serve you. I use a variety of strategies including person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused therapy. I look forward to hearing from you.

Melissa is the first therapist that I’ve had where i feel like I’m actually understood. I’m a person that needs to have a plan and feel like I’m working towards something instead of someone just listening to me. Melissa does a great job listening, validating my feelings, and then helping me challenge the thoughts that are causing me to feel a certain way. She gives me “homework” which is exactly what i need to feel like I’m working in feeling better and making my mental health a priority. In just a few sessions, i already feel more at peace and see progress.
