Melissa Stringer

About Me

I am a Texas based, Licensed Professional Counselor with nearly a decade of experience. Some of my areas of focus include: depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem/confidence, life transitions, relationship/work related stress, current/past forms of abuse. I've worked in a variety of medical and mental health settings providing both individual and group therapy. Here's a snapshot of some of the roles that have shaped and influenced my growth both professionally and personally: Social Services Director at a nursing and rehabilitation center; Psychotherapist at a counseling center for women; Substance Abuse Counselor for a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program; and Licensed Professional Counselor for an online therapy platform. I currently run my own online private practice, and am part-time employed with a group private practice.

I approach counseling very eager to make a connection with you, because this is what I value above all else. The integrity and quality of our relationship has a significant impact on how deeply you will benefit from therapy. I want to provide you with a safe space to process your issues, while providing understanding and support. I will help you take a closer look at any thoughts, behaviors, or patterns that do not seem to be working for you. I will be here each step of the way as you try out new approaches and tools tailored to meet your needs. We will be partners in finding the solutions to your problems and reaching your personal goals.

I consider my approach to be eclectic in nature, drawing on many theories and schools of thought. I do not believe there is one correct way to provide therapy, and strive to tailor my approach to fit your needs as an individual. Here are some examples of therapeutic modalities that I often use with clients: Solutions Focused-Strength Based; Rogerian (Person Centered Therapy); Cognitive Behavioral; and Logotherapy (Existentialism). Some theories I adhere to are Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Social Constructionism, and Relational Frame Theories.

Over the years, I have received feedback from clients that I’m easy to talk to, good humored, genuine or “real”, and non-judgmental. I am grateful to be a therapist and get to do what I'm passionate about for a living. We are all individuals and have different perceptions, but collectively struggle with similar issues. I love helping clients through rough times so that they can achieve a greater sense of happiness and balance.

I look forward to connecting with you!!

Melissa is very caring with a lot of experience. Melissa is always careful to listen and hear the base of what I am trying to say.
