About me

My therapeutic approach is to meet you where you’re at and work with you to accomplish your goals. This is done through gaining self-awareness and insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Using an evidenced based approach, I can effectively address emotional and behavioral issues for clients from diverse backgrounds. I can also incorporate your spiritual beliefs into the treatment protocol in order to holistically address your needs. Ultimately, I want to provide a judgment free environment where you can openly talk about and work though difficult things.

My passion is working with individuals and their families. Since 2006, I have worked or interned in a variety of different settings ranging from outpatient to psychiatric hospitalization. The populations I serve struggle with a variety of issues related to mental health, addiction and other self-destructive behaviors. I also have training and experience in the treatment of individuals who have been sexually exploited and had the pleasure of presenting nationally and locally on the topic.

I am a graduate of Adams State University where I completed a Masters of Arts Degree in Mental Health with an endorsement in School Counseling. I continued my education post grad to also specialize in addiction counseling. I have over 12 years of experience and I’m currently licensed in mental health, school and addiction counseling. I use an integrative approach based on my client’s needs. I have training and experience using DBT, CBT, client centered therapy, trauma focused therapy, solution focused therapy, and motivational interviewing.

Melissa is very knowledgeable & helps me understand what’s going on. I like the way she can tell my mental processes from a short interaction. However, I wish she would assert for us to meet over the phone or via video because I don’t have enough confidence to yet.
