Meredith Staley, LCSW
About me
Hello,
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker living on the beautiful North Carolina coast. I specialize in working with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, disconnection in relationships, and difficulty adjusting to life transitions. My approach to therapy is to build a relationship with you where you can feel seen, heard and accepted in whatever form or fashion you show up (even in your pajamas).
I pull from a variety of therapeutic frameworks, including person-centered therapy (an approach where you are the expert, even if you don't know it yet), cognitive behavioral therapy (an approach that looks at how your thoughts, feelings and behavior are interconnected and can change), and internal family systems (a compassionate approach that explores all the many parts of your inner world). There is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy, so I adapt my style to the needs and personalities of each individual person I work with.
I'm always striving to make my practices inclusive and affirming. I am body positive, sex positive, and competent in working with LGBTQIA clients as well as clients in open or non-monogamous relationships.
Here's a snapshot of my experience:
In 2013, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. For several years, I worked at a local sexual violence service provider assisting survivors of sexual violence as they navigated the complex legal system. In 2017, I earned my Master's Degree in Social Work from Appalachian State University. I then began providing therapy to individuals and families involved in the foster care system. I currently work in school-based mental health serving middle and high school students.
Connecting to therapy can feel intimidating, so be proud of yourself for finding your way here. I am so looking forward to meeting you!
