Hi. I'm a mental health and addictions therapist working in Iowa. I have both focuses as many times these symptoms occur together and I wanted the skills to treat all areas of distress a client may have. I use CBT and motivational interviewing skills with most clients; but also am trained in DBT and EMDR therapy as well.
I have been a therapist for 3 years, with several additional years of experience in the a behavioral health inpatient as a staff worker prior to moving to a therapist role. I find that humor and pop culture references help to make therapy more engaging and less of a sterile medical feel and use these often. I've worked with clients ranging in age from19 to those retired after age 65; with common symptoms such as social anxiety or anger issues to more severe syptoms of actively suicidal or anti social clients.
My hope is that one day we'll have a focus on Health Psychology with check-ins with a therapist a few times a year being no more abnormal then seeing the dentist or doctor. I encourage anyone reading this who's looking to be heard, to have a second point of view for their decision making, or whom would like to learn some new skills to manage the adjustments to the chaotic world to reach out.
I look forward to meeting you. Best wishes

Very good experience so far. Looking forward to future sessions. Very helpful to know there is someone to reach out to for help.
