About me

Thank you for making this first step in a new journey! I hope you find the help you are looking for. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois and have been in the professional counseling business a little over two years after over 20 years in another helping profession. I have experience working with people struggling with depression and anxiety, family conflicts, grief and loss, as well as difficult life changes. I enjoy helping people discover the strength they have to make the changes they need in their lives.

I want to help my clients to find what gives them meaning and purpose in their life. I am convinced that by discovering this meaning you can answer life's difficult challenges. My role is not to answer those questions for you, but to help you discover the answers yourself. Your role is to maintain the courage it took to take that first step and reach out for help and use it to discover the answers you need. I will work with you to shape our conversation to accomplish the goals you chose to reach the results you desire. The foundation of my counseling philosophy comes from existential theory. With this foundation, I will pull from many different theories, such as cognitive behavioral theory, or solution focused counseling to provide my clients with a tailored plan.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you. Good luck on your journey.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Michael Long. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

When I started my counseling with Mike I was going through a lot of changes all at once - readjusting to being back in Canada after 2 months abroad, going through a breakup, starting a new job, and changing my living arrangements. I was beyond overwhelmed. Mike had a fantastic approach with me. He was always straightforward with me, but quick to notice small improvements, and acknowledge them. He helped me work through my complicated family relationships, adjust to my new very stressful job, and change the way I approach not only my romantic relationships, but also relationships with my friends by reminding myself sometimes "it's not about the nail." After 7 months I feel incredibly emotionally strong and well equipped with new tools to face future challenges. I am a huge advocate for better help knowing that it has helped improve my life significantly and wear my t-shirt with pride. Thank you Mike :) "
