Michael Petrosky Flores

About Me

I am a mental health counselor licensed in Florida with over 19-years of clinical experience, I presently hold a Doctor of Education degree in Counselor Education & Supervision and a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am also a State of Florida Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health Interns as well as a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as well as severe disorders such as schizophrenia. I also have helped individuals that struggle with substance abuse, emotional abuse and trauma.
I have always been intrigued by the what drives human behavior and how it either helps or hinders the individual. I, then witnessed my grandmother’s mental decline from Alzheimer disease and felt so powerless to assist her. This event created the desire in me to learn more about the brain’s function and the interplay between thoughts and emotions, leading me to pursue a personal educational imperative to complete my doctoral studies and subsequently apply all I have learned to assist as many people as possible. I have worked in multiple settings including: crisis stabilization units, inpatient units, outpatient units, in school settings as well in private practice settings. The clinical approach, I use combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psycho-dynamic, solution-focused, narrative, reality therapy, person-centered, gestalt therapy. and rational-emotive behavioral therapy. I will customize our dialogue and treatment plan in order to meet your unique and specific needs as well as provide support and compassionate professional mental health counseling services.
