Having been active as a therapist since the 90s, both in private practice and on staff with Kaiser Permanente for 13 years, I sometimes imagine I've seen "everything." Fortunately, the next person I see will often prove me wrong. The areas of my major experience and competence include Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar); Anxiety in all its forms; OCD; Chronic pain management; Anger management, Sexual concerns, including LGBTQ and transgender problems; couples and families; and others.
I'm a PhD in Marital & Family therapy (1997), and my background includes career responsibilities in the advertising/marketing fields, studies in philosophy and anthropology at U.C. Berkeley, and early training for the Orthodox Jewish Rabbinate,
I am of course well acquainted with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, in all its current incarnations, Motivational Interviewing, as well as psychodynamic therapy, Jungian therapy, and the careful application of good sense.
Feel free to contact me on this site to discuss working together.

Michael is a great listener. He is kind and has helped me work through my stuff
Michael was very easy to talk to and helped me to get to the bottom of some of my issues. He was quick to respond with messages and was respectful of my time.
Has been helpful
Mike is very understanding and gentle. He's a good listener, and helps me reflect on some of the issues that I've been dealing with.
In the future, when I choose a counselor, I will demand one who can identify Ignatz Ratskywatsky and André Gide without Googling them.
He’s a great therapist!
Michael Stample is very easy to talk to and he knew that's just what I needed.
Michael is extremely knowledgeable and patient. He has a great understanding of complex issues and has a way of being able to break things down into smaller more digestible and actionable pieces.
