Hello, my name is Michelle Friedman and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the states of New York and Florida. I use a person-centered approach through the use of cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and mindfulness-based therapy. I have worked in community mental health, substance abuse treatment, and residential school environments as well as within the criminal justice and healthcare systems over the past ten years providing counseling services to adults, adolescents and children. I specialize in issues related to stress, self-esteem, depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, substance abuse and parenting challenges. I also have experience working with the foster care and adoption populations, relationship issues, family conflict, grief and loss, and anger management.
Through my professional and personal experiences I have come to understand that the transition into parenthood can bring many joys as well as personal challenges. I specialize in prenatal and postpartum mental health, infertility, loss, anxiety and depression. Parents often require special support, resources and intervention when faced with postpartum depression. It can be difficult to reach out for support during a time when most people would only expect to be experiencing the joys of a new child. I have a great passion for walking with people through this transition.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one that should foster respect, trust, honesty, communication, positive change and hope. The journey continues.

I have just started working with Michelle but she is very prompt and answers me frequently, taking the time to read through almost everything that I express. We had our first phone session and I felt completely at ease and am excited to move forward with her. She has a warm personality and she is very validating and caring.
Michelle Friedman is a superb therapist. She is intelligent, personable, and active listener. Equally important, she is very compassionate and highly skilled. These are all the things I look for in a therapist —moreover, they are all the things most people I know look for, too.
