About me

I look forward to working with you!

I am Michelle King, JD, LPC-S, a Licensed Professional Counselor and legal consultant with 12 years of experience working with adults and adolescents as individuals and groups. My experience has allowed me to serve clients in settings like inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, partial hospitalization programs, residential treatment centers, juvenile justice facilities, and adult forensics. I was drawn to the field of psychology as more and more people sought my advice and counsel growing up. I look forward to helping others become their best selves through brief solution-focused treatment.

Life can be tough to navigate alone and I'm here to help you! My approach is with empathy and compassion, along with a direct and straightforward style. Together we can challenge negative, ineffective thoughts and patterns and bring positive change to your life. I work with adults, couples, first responders, athletes, executives, and college students. So, whether it's work stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD, couples counseling, adjustment to new transitions in your life, LGBTQ+, or pre/post-surgical counseling, I can help with brief solution-focused treatment.

My approach is a holistic one and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), in a nutshell, seeks to change a person’s irrational or faulty thinking and behaviors by educating the person and reinforcing positive experiences that will lead to fundamental changes in the way that person copes.

Many people expect that therapy would try and attack feelings, to change them. Not the case here. Generally, feelings will only change after your thinking and behaviors have returned more to “normal” (whatever the heck that is!). So cognitive-behavioral therapists will work on helping the patient identify irrational thoughts, refute them, and help the patient change useless or frustrating, and unproductive behaviors. Some of my techniques include talk therapy; modeling; role-play; and reinforcement strategies, as well as Ayurvedic medicine (i.e. yoga, breathing techniques, and lifestyle tools, in addition to using herbal remedies to address the imbalance.).

Cognitive-behavioral therapy has had some of the greatest success in research with a wide variety of disorders, from phobias to anxiety to depression. This therapy is one of the few empirically validated therapies on the market today. Does that mean it will work for you? Not necessarily, but it’s probably worth your effort to give it a try.

Michelle is great!! Originally, I enrolled in therapy with no real expectations except it seemed like the “right thing to do” but since meeting w/ Michelle it’s been the best decision I’ve made.

She is very attentive, listens and truly understands my point of view but also enlightens me on opposing points of views to help challenge my thinking, I enjoy that. Nonetheless, I am enjoying my time and would definitely recommend Michelle.

Michelle is thoughtful and understanding. She helps me work through the various stressors in my life and helps de-bunk unnecessary stressors. She points out when I'm skipping over the positives and gives great feedback. Michelle genuinely cares about her clients and has a wide breadth of experience. I trust I am in good hands during sessions and cannot recommend her enough.
